Tan-tastic delivery!
The Tan House footbridge replacement in Wokingham has moved one step closer as the main structure was delivered and installed.
Over the weekend, the bridge was brought through the town, offloaded and installed with cranes and other moving equipment.
It replaces the two old footbridges that cross the tracks behind Carnival Hub and will be finished and ready to use in around three weeks.
At the moment, the bridge will provide step access only. We worked with Wokingham Town Council to try and push Network Rail to include ramps as part of the design, however while the company was willing to allow us to install ramps they were not prepared to put forward any financial contribution.
Because of the type of ramp that would need to be installed, the cost would be in the millions and at the moment neither us or the town council has the money to cover this cost. We hope that at some point in the future it is something we can work with Network Rail on. The design used means the steps could be replaced with a ramp should funding become available.
Gas mains upgrade to start in Earley
SGN will be starting work to upgrade the gas mains in Earley next week.
Between 4 March and 15 May, rolling road closures will be in place on Betchworth Avenue and Silverdale Road.
Access will be maintained for residents and businesses, however, you might have to follow the signed diversion route to gain access depending on what section of road is closed. Teams will be on site to advise what sections of road will be closed when. You can find out more on the closures:
For more information on these works you can contact SGN directly on 0800 912 1700 or email customer@sgn.co.uk.

 Your views wanted
We are currently seeking your views on two consultations regarding travel around the borough. Don't miss your chance to have your say.
We're updating our Local Transport Plan, an official document guiding how we improve footways, cycle lanes, roads, bus services and other ways of getting around for years to come.
This will offer more chances to leave the car at home, especially for shorter journeys, helping us to reduce air pollution and tackle the climate emergency while helping you to live more healthily.
It aims to improve access to public spaces like parks and leisure centres, as this is good for people's physical and mental wellbeing, and also to workplaces and local services.
Closes 8 March 2024
We're planning to improve the route along the A329 Reading Road between Wokingham town centre and neighbourhoods to the west near Winnersh.
This is designed to tackle the things you've told us you're worried about when you're walking and cycling, particularly your and your children's safety
This is part of our efforts to tackle the climate emergency, reduce air pollution and congestion and improve people's health by making it easier to walk or cycle.
Closes 18 March 2024
 Drainage installed at California Cross
Work is well underway as we head toward the end of the third week of the California Cross project, which has been in the pipeline for several years as funding was agreed from developer contributions as a result of the development in Arborfield.
It will provide resilience and longevity to the road structure as well as increasing pedestrian crossing points and giving the area a refreshed look.
Much of the works won't be visible to the public, as we are rebuilding the structure of the road from bottom up, including replacing and reviewing below surface utilities.
We've started investigating where the utilities are and are pulling together a comprehensive map of where pipes are laid, including digging down through the first few layers of the road surface and using cameras underground to follow and map the pipes.
We’ve also been installing underground drainage.
You can sign up for our California Cross improvements newsletter to get the latest, accurate information on the work taking place.
