Free, festive family film screenings before Christmas
Start your Christmas at Wokingham Leisure Centre at Carnival Hub, where there will be free film screenings.
The event is being hosted by Places Leisure on Friday 22 December and features a trio of Christmas films on show:
- Miracle on 34th Street (1947) - 10am to 12noon
- Elf - 2pm to 4pm
- Deck the Halls - 6pm to 8pm
The event is free and open to everyone, whether you are attending with friends and family, alone or just wanting to escape the cold for a few hours.
Free refreshments will also be available, including mince pies, shortbread, tea, coffee and hot chocolate. Reserve your space online or you can call (0118) 9770007 to speak to a member of the team
Please note when booking online, scroll to the timetable section of the page. Select 'kids' from the menu options and Friday 22 December as the date. Booking options for the three films will then appear.
Energy advice sessions to help lower your bills
We've teamed up with Citizens Advice Wokingham to run an energy advice workshop in Finchampstead next week.
We'll be at The Community Hub (20 Gorse Ride South, RG40 4EH) from 11am to 12.30pm to give free energy advice to residents.
It's a drop in session, no need to book. You can find out about:
- Types of tariffs and meters
- Energy efficiency ideas to save energy
- Current energy crisis and price cap
- Current support offered by Government
- Winter fuel and cold weather payments
- Explaining the Warm Home Discount
- Explaining the priority services register
- Fuel Debts and benefit entitlements
- Carbon Monoxide awareness and alarms
More dates for similar events elsewhere in the borough will be available in the New Year. Watch out for future updates.
If you can't make it but want energy advice, you can contact the council’s Customer Service Team on the website or by phone on (0118) 974 6000.
You will then be signposted to the relevant information you need, or referred to the council’s Energy Team who will be able to give more detailed advice.
Residents can also access the Parity Projects Plan Builder App directly without contacting the council first. This will give you options for changes you could make to where you live to save money on energy.
Help this festive season
This festive season will be difficult for many people, due to the higher cost of living.
Organisations across the borough are on hand to help those who need. This includes potential support with gifts and Santa's grotto visits.
Our help at Christmas webpage has details of the support options available, including help for people who might be lonely on Christmas Day, crisis support and more.
