Companionship and Christmas cheer at charity lunch
For many, Christmas Day is a day for getting together and celebrating with loved ones. Sadly, for some people it is a difficult day.
For the 12th year running, The Link Visiting Scheme is opening its doors for a Christmas Day lunch. This will include having a friend to talk to, gifts and a traditional Christmas dinner.
The charity, which is based in Wokingham, helps to reduce loneliness among older people.
To refer someone, or if you wish to volunteer or donate, email The Link Visiting Scheme or call (0118) 979 8019.
Deck your halls with DIY Christmas decorations
Would your child enjoy making some decorations for the Christmas tree, or to hang around the house?
From Saturday 16 to Friday 22 December, you can get a DIY pack for young ones to create their own festive decorations at The Coffee Deck at Dinton Activity Centre for just £2.50.
Each DIY pack contains everything you will need for making two designs: a Grinch and a tree, or Father Christmas and a snowman. Staff will be around to help if you need.
Before you go, book online for a 30-minute slot, so we can reserve a table for you to enjoy your crafting.
Free energy advice to help you keep warm this winter
Keeping your home properly heated is essential through the winter months, but with the rising cost of living you may be concerned about how much it will cost to keep warm.
A free energy advice session is being held at the Community Hub, located at 20 Gorse Ride South in Finchampstead, to help you navigate this subject.
The event, which is being organised in partnership with Citizens Advice, will run from 11am to 12.30pm on Thursday 14 December and you don’t need to book.
Lots will be discussed during the session, including energy efficiency ideas to save energy, support being offered by Government and the types of tariffs and meters available. There will also be advice on winter fuel and cold weather payments and much more.
If you are unable to make this session, there will be another chance at Woodley Library on Tuesday 16 January from 1pm to 3.30pm.
Discuss worldly matters over a drink during COP28
Join the People, Planet, Pint team at The Rose Inn in Wokingham tomorrow (Thursday 7 December) at 6pm.
Part of a national initiative, this is an opportunity for people to learn more about sustainability and share their ideas. It is co-hosted by two local residents, Elizabeth Corse and Anna Watson, who make sure to create a relaxed and welcoming space.
And this will be a special edition of the monthly meet-up, as there will be a COP28 focus to mark the ongoing international conference being held in Dubai.
It is free to attend, but places should be registered in advance. There is no agenda - simply turn up and join in the conversation, with the first drink free.
