Wokingham Borough Connect
Park and Ride sites revived thanks to grants
We’ve agreed to provide funding, through a Government grant, to relaunch a park and ride bus between Winnersh Triangle and central Reading from late November.
It’ll run every 20 minutes on Saturdays until at least April 2024. We’d like to extend it to weekdays as well, depending on passenger numbers.
Funding for this renewed Reading Buses service is time-limited, so it must become commercially viable by March 2025 or it might have to stop again.
We’re also opening Coppid Beech car park, off Oak Avenue in Wokingham town, so passengers can park near the Lion 4/X4 bus stops on London Road.
Usage of the site, which also has 14 electric vehicle chargepoints, will be monitored and it could shut again if it isn’t well used. Please make the most of it if you can.
The Department for Transport provided funding to support our Bus Service Improvement Plan. We published this as part of our efforts to cut air pollution and tackle the climate emergency.
The park and ride sites were funded by the Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership and contributions from housing developers.

Asphalt preservation brings big carbon savings
This year, our contractors VolkerHighways have completed 86,653m2 of asphalt preservation works across 15 roads in the borough. That is the equivalent area of 332 tennis courts!
Asphalt preservation is a sustainable and cost-effective solution to improve roads, by sealing the surface layer, extending the resilience and performance of a road surface.
When compared to conventional warm mix resurfacing, the asphalt preservation programme achieved 396.8tonnes of co2e savings, around 90 per cent carbon saving. This is equivalent to driving 1,474,983 miles in a typical diesel car.
The programme has covered all types of roads, with its largest schemes being along the A321/320 Finchampstead Road and A4 New Bath Road where the team completed over 10,000m2 at each location of asphalt preservation solution.
If you'd like to find out more about how our roads are maintained, or how to report an issue on our highways, please visit our roadworks and outdoor maintenance webpage.
Reporting problems with manhole covers
Many manhole covers are owned by utility companies such as Thames Water or South East Water and must be repaired by them, but we work very closely with them to keep all our residents safe.
If you need to report an urgent issue that requires immediate attention, call us directly on 0118 974 6000 and select the 'highways' option Mondays to Fridays, 9am to 5pm. Outside of these times (and on bank holidays), please call 0800 212 111.
To report a non-urgent fault visit our website, click on the location of the manhole cover on the map and provide a brief description of the problem. We will provide you with a reference number and you can keep up to date with the progress of your report via our fault tracker. This information can also be sent directly to your inbox if you provide your email address.
