Do you need more green bags?
We all know recycling is a small but powerful way to reduce waste.
If you frequently run out of room in your green bags, why not pick up more from our office at Shute End (RG40 1BN), our libraries in Woodley, Lower Earley and Carnival Hub or Earley Town Council (RG6 5UL)? They're free of charge.
If you can't pick them up, you can also order them on our website and we will deliver them to you within 15 working days.
 Did you know?
Can tea bags be recycled if they may have plastic in them?
Yes. Food waste collected from your home is turned into energy and fertilisers using a process called anaerobic digestion. All 'non-organic' materials, like plastic in teabags, are screened out during the process.
Recycling tea bags is easy. Just toss them in your kitchen caddy and put out for recycling with other food scraps.
If you have a compost heap at home, tea bags can be mixed with your garden waste and composted.
 Pack waste-free lunches
Lunchtime doesn’t have to be full of rubbish that piles up in landfill. In a new school year, why not challenge yourself to prepare waste-free packed lunches for your children?
Here are some tips for packing a waste-free lunch:
- Pack leftovers from home for them to eat for lunch. Check out the NHS website for some healthy lunch box recipes.
- Swap single-use plastics for reusables and refillables, such as using beewax wraps instead of cling film or foil, or bringing your own water bottles and utensils.
- Buy snacks like crisps and nuts in bulk and pack into smaller pots. Bulk is often cheaper, and there's less waste than with individual packaging.
- Ask your child to bring home any leftovers so that you can see how much of their lunch they eat and you know how much to pack in future.
- Get your kids involved in preparing and choosing what goes in their lunchbox. They are more likely to eat it if they've helped make it.
Heads up: Garden waste collection cost going down
Autumn is here and leaves are beginning to fall! From 1 October, you'll only need to pay £40 for our fortnightly garden waste collection service and have your grass cuttings, clippings, leaves and weeds collected from the kerbside until the end of March 2024. Find out more on our website.
