Sandford Lane closure
Sandford Lane, between Hurst and Woodley, is temporarily closed for bridge maintenance work between 9.30am and 4pm until this Friday (1 September).
During these times, you can get to the car parks of Dinton Activity Centre and Lavell's Nature Reserve from the Hurst end of Sandford Lane.
Paddle, run and have some fun at SUPathlon
We are joining hands with Barnes Fitness to bring you the Dinton SUPathlon on 24 September (Sunday) at Dinton Pastures Country Park.
The event is a combination of 1km stand-up paddleboarding on Black Swan Lake and a 5km run around the country park. You can enter as an individual to complete both by yourself or as a team of two, each doing one part of it.
Stand-up paddleboards are available for hire, but you need to have previous experience in the sport when entering. (Don't worry! You still have time to gain some before the event with Dinton Activity Centre!)
Minimum age to enter is 15. If you are interested in taking part, sign up online before midday, 22 September.
New mobile café is full of beans
A new mobile coffee shop opened today (29 August) at South Lake in Woodley – so be sure to pay them a visit.
Roro's Conscious Coffee is a family-run business that sources its products from ethical and sustainable suppliers, ensuring everyone involved is paid fairly. It also supports small businesses in the UK as its beans are roasted by another family firm based in Surrey.
As well as serving a range of coffees, tea and hot chocolate, owners Caroline and David will be offering a range of cakes and pastries alongside a few healthier options.
The couple launched the business following a 20-year City career because they wanted to focus on making the world a better place for their children - and we're very proud to support these values.
Their shop will be at the South Lake picnic area from 8am until 3pm on weekdays and you can find out more on their Facebook or Instagram pages and their website.
Glow up for charity walk at Dinton
Following last year's success, First Days Children's Charity is organising another Glow Walk at Dinton Pastures Country Park to raise funds towards their work.
It will start at 5pm on 18 November (Saturday). Like the previous event, you can enjoy a two-mile starlight walk around Black Swan Lake and take in the illuminated woodland with various light features as well as jugglers, singers and illuminated stand-up paddleboarders.
Hot chocolate, hot dogs and mulled wine will be on sale, so you can bring something warm with you while immersing yourself in the lights.
You are also encouraged to make yourself glow with as many light-up accessories as you can, with glow sticks available to buy on-site.
There is tiered pricing to make the event accessible to as many people as possible, starting at £5 per adult. You can contribute based on your circumstances and how much you can afford.
To find out more and book a ticket, visit the First Days website.
Help shape Berkshire's Nature Recovery Strategy
Join a webinar to understand how you can contribute to a Local Nature Recovery Strategy for Berkshire!
To reverse the continuing decline of British wildlife, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is launching Local Nature Recovery Strategies to increase biodiversity and restore natural habitats.
A consultation led by Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead will be launched later this year to seek views on creating one for Berkshire - and we're supporting this.
Before this starts, why not join one of the introductory webinars to find out how you could be involved and ask questions?
They are tailored for different audiences, including residents, farmers, foresters, landowners and land managers, businesses, non-governmental organisations and developers.
