Wokingham Borough Connect
Wet weather continues to affect resurfacing schedule
The full resurfacing phase of our annual maintenance programme was completed this week with Basingstoke Road in Riseley being resurfaced between the Bull Inn and Westbourne House.
The team will be returning to install cat’s eyes, carry out lining works and complete other final touches which could not be completed due to the wet weather.
Rainfall this week has caused a number of asphalt preservation works to be postponed. Any changes to the schedule will be posted on our Traffic and Traffic Facebook page, as well as on the advanced warning boards on site.
Details of the full resurfacing schedule can be found on our website. As always, works are weather dependent and subject to change but the signage on site of the works will display up to date information if changes do occur.
Cameras installed to enforce Moving Traffic Orders
Now the Department for Transport has approved our application to take on the enforcement of moving traffic, we will be installing cameras from the 21 August at the initial 11 locations across the borough.
Enforcement will start in September 2023 and will mainly use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, with penalty charge notices (PCN) sent to the registered keeper of offending vehicles. For the first six months, drivers will receive a warning, but only for their first offence.
Your safety is our number one priority, and these changes will allow us, like many other councils, to take control and increase the enforcement work that we already undertake to make our roads safer and accessible while reducing congestion.
Locations for enforcement have been prioritised based on those with the highest amount of driver non-compliance. The eleven initial locations that have been identified and approved are:
- Broad Street, Wokingham at the junction with Rose Street: banned right turn
- Barkham Road rail crossing Wokingham, at the junction with Oxford Road: banned right turn
- Station Road, Wokingham at the junction with Station Approach: banned right turn
- Wellington Road Wokingham, at the junction with Station Road: ahead only
- Gipsy Lane, Wokingham: weight restriction
- Murdoch Road, Wokingham, width restriction Keep left
- Goatley Way, Wokingham: one-way street
- Milton Road, Wokingham: no entry except buses
- Easthampstead Road, Wokingham: yellow box junction
- Hyde End Lane, Spencers Wood at the junction with Fullbrook Avenue and Bolton Drive: buses only
- Whitlock Avenue, Wokingham: banned right turn
Summer Bike Bonanza hailed great success
Thank you for all those who came along to our Summer Bike Bonanza yesterday at Finchampstead Baptist Centre and helped make it such a fun and exciting event. There was so much to do with a family cycle ride led by our My Journey team as well as balance bikes and pedal bikes available to try out.
The team were also on hand to offer help to those looking to improve their cycle skills and provide information about all our cycling classes we have available for all ages and abilities.
Lots of fun was had by all who tried out our famous pedalicious bike that makes smoothies and Doctor Bike was kept busy offering free bike checks.
