Still time to have your say
We’ve got a few consultations and surveys which are closing soon. Don’t miss your chance to have your say on:
Review of single person’s Council Tax discount
We've launched a review of the single person’s Council Tax discount to ensure residents receiving it remain entitled to claim.
Just like other local authorities, we’re facing huge financial challenges and increased demand for statutory services. We need to ensure our vital services are protected and residents get the support they need and Council Tax income funds essential services we provide to residents.
The review will ensure single person households are entitled to receive the reduction in Council Tax. The discount is available to a person aged 18 years old and over and living alone in their main home.
The discount provides a reduction of 25 per cent from their council tax bill which reflects the reduced demand single persons have on local services when compared to larger households.
Any resident who thinks they may no longer be entitled to a council tax discount should email ctax@wokingham.gov.uk
If you would like more information on the various discounts and benefits you may be entitled to claim, visit our website and the Government’s website.
Children’s book festival ready to return
Get ready for a fun weekend as the Wokingham Children's Book Festival is returning in October.
A total of 13 events are being held across 14 and 15 October, with lots of award-winning authors and illustrators coming to town.
This year’s line-up includes Nick Sharratt, Holly Webb, Iszi Lawrence, Jane Elson and Clare Bevan. Each workshop is followed by a book signing and sessions are always interactive and family-friendly.
Children can meet their favourite authors, learn more about the creative process of coming up with characters and have a go themselves by taking part in drawing activities.
You will receive a 15 per cent discount on tickets purchased by the end of August. Otherwise, tickets remain priced at just £3 per person and can be bought from the book festival website.
