Looking to learn something new, but don't want to wait until the new term in September? We have courses starting in August that may be of interest!
Some courses are free, and those courses that have a cost are free for anyone who is in receipt of Universal Credit (work related), Employment Support Allowance, Jobseeker’s Allowance, or are on low income and in receipt of Income Support. Please contact us with any queries around costs. Eligibility requirements for all courses are at the end of the newsletter.
Introduction to managing your child's anxiety

The Introduction to Managing your Child's Anxiety course is an interactive, tutor led course, run over two sessions on Zoom. It is aimed at parents of primary school aged children. The course is run with a small group of learners so there is time for everyone to talk and ask questions as you gain more understanding around the causes and effects of anxiety, signs of anxiety in children and simple tips for families to use to manage everyday worries.
Building your confidence to get back into work or volunteering
- 15 to 24 August, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am to 11.30am, Online via Zoom

Getting into work or volunteering after a break for any reason, or for the first time in a new country, can be daunting. This course will help you to identify all the strengths and qualities you have that employers want and look at ways to expand your experience through volunteering or further learning while building your confidence to take the next steps.
Excel for Work

Know how to create everyday formulas. Learn techniques for summarising and sorting data for easier understanding. This course will introduce you to the essential skills that you will need for everyday use in work. Ideal for those who have some prior knowledge or experience using Excel.
Building your child's confidence and resilience

Coping with emotions is important for happiness and wellbeing. Help your child recognise, understand and accept feelings and to express them in appropriate ways. Learn to help your primary school aged child to deal with negative feelings and cope with stressful life events over a two session course.
Help with your maths
During the sessions you will refresh the basic maths skills which are used in everyday life and work including fractions, percentages and ratios. The course will help you assess your current skill level and identify further courses you could attend if you want to improve your maths skills further. The sessions are part of the Multiply initiative to improve adult numeracy and are free for learners who have lived in the UK for more than three years. We have a number of classes running at different levels and we will work with you to find the right course for you!
Eligibility
You need to:
Live or work within the Wokingham Borough, or have a child attending a Wokingham borough school,
- AND be over 19 years old (as of 31 August 2023)
- AND have ordinarily been resident in the UK or EEA for at least three years. If you are an EEA National, you need to have obtained either pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
All Ukrainian adults and their family members supported through the Ukraine Family Scheme and Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme are immediately eligible for courses and are exempt from the three year residency requirement.
Learners with a BN(O) visa are eligible to apply for Community Learning courses until 31 December 2023.
