Wokingham Borough Connect
Moving traffic order application approved
The Department for Transport has approved our application to take on the enforcement of moving traffic. These changes will allow us to increase the enforcement work that we already undertake (such as enforcing parking violations) to make our roads safer, accessible and reduce congestion.
Moving traffic offences that would be enforceable under the new powers can include such restrictions as driving through a ‘No Entry’ sign, driving on routes that are for buses and taxis only, and turning left or right when instructed not to.
Enforcement will start in September and will mainly use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, with penalty charge notices (PCN) sent to the registered keeper of offending vehicles. For the first six months, drivers will receive a warning but only for their first offence.
These restrictions are currently enforceable by the police, but we received overall positive feedback from the consultation last year for us to take on the responsibility of enforcing certain regulations.
Your safety is our number one priority and these changes will allow us, like many other local authorities, to take control and increase the enforcement work that we already undertake to make our roads safer and accessible while reducing congestion.
Further information about the locations for enforcement can be found on our website.
Park and ride service to Heathrow Airport
From this week, the Rail Air coach service from Reading to Heathrow will add a new stop to its route at the Thames Valley Park and Ride. The air-conditioned coaches depart up to every 30 minutes from 2.49am to 11.03pm every day of the week and a day return costs £23.
Thames Valley Park and Ride is located at Thames Valley Park, west of the roundabout between the A3290 and Thames Valley Park Drive and offers a convenient and more sustainable way to travel to the airport without having to worry about parking when you get there.
This fast service along the M4 stops at Terminal 5, the Compass Centre, as well as Terminal 2 and 3. Free bus and train connections are then available to Terminal 4.
If you are leaving your car at the park and ride, charges must be paid at on-site parking machines and apply to all users. Parking is £1 an hour for up to 4 hours or £4 for over 4 hours. Multi day tickets and annual season tickets are also available.
Latest on road maintenance programme
Our first round of Asphalt Preservation works will be starting on School Road next week. It's a cost-effective preventative treatment, which adds protection to the road surface.
The locations for the first round of these works can be found on our website together with our latest schedule showing dates and times of these works.
The full resurfacing phase of our annual maintenance programme continues in August with works taking place on Basingstoke Road on 7 to 8 August between the Bull Inn and Westbourne House.
Full resurfacing is a more extensive treatment, which involves removing layers of a worn out road surface and replacing this with new material.
Details of the full resurfacing schedule can be found on our website. As always, works are weather dependent and subject to change but the signage on site of the works will display up to date information if changes do occur.
Report a pothole or an issue with a road
Did you know it's not just potholes that you can report to us via our website? You can use our online system to report a variety of issues about our road network.
This includes issues with signage that may be dirty, damaged or obscured by overgrown vegetation. We can also help if you need to report a damaged street light, traffic light or bollard, as well as any obstruction in the road like a fallen tree or a dead animal.
Our map based highways reporting system is a simple way to report issues with the road network quickly via our website and we can even update you on the progress of your query if you choose to leave your email address.
Train station ticket office consultation extended
The consultation looking at whether to remove ticket offices from train stations has been extended until 1 September. For more information and to take part visit Transport Focus.
