Book a free bike check with Doctor Bike
Gearing up for a summer of cycling? Why not get your bike checked over by Dr Bike for free to ensure you're summer ready?
If there are any parts needed or it's beyond the scope of the session he'll let you know and give you some advice and options to get your bike ready to ride.
On Saturday (22 July) Doctor Bike will be outside St Eligius Church on Tope Road, Arborfield (RG2 9NB).
He'll then be pedalling over to Bulmershe Leisure Centre (RG5 3EU) on Wednesday 26 July before heading over to Dinton Pastures (RG10 0TH) on Thursday 27 July.
All three session will take place from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Places are limited so book now to avoid disappointment.
New treatment to protect road surfaces
This year we're introducing a new treatment to our road maintenance programme. Asphalt Preservation is a cost-effective preventative treatment, which adds protection to the road surface. A sealant is applied which seals cracks to help prevent pothole formation. This protection can extend the life of a road surface by up to five years.
The locations for the first round of these works can be found our website and we will update the website with dates and timings once the schedule is confirmed.
Further details of our road maintenance programme can be found on our website. As always, works are weather dependent and subject to change but the signage on site of the works will display up to date information if changes do occur.
Park and Ride to Royal Berkshire Hospital
Did you know Reading Buses offer a hospital park and ride service? The service runs from two of our park and ride locations to Royal Berkshire Hospital around every 20 minutes from 6am and 7pm, Monday to Friday?
Thames Valley park and ride is located at Thames Valley Park, west of the roundabout between the A3290 and Thames Valley Park Drive. Reading Buses also operate this service from Mereoak park and ride, situated at Mereoak Lane, Grazeley with access to the site from the A33, just south of M4 junction 11.
This park and ride service offers a convenient and more sustainable way to travel to the hospital without having to worry about parking when you get there.
All day bus tickets can be purchased from the driver at £3.50 for an adult and £2.80 for those aged 18 and under which are valid on all local bus services inside the simplyReading zone, including on buses which aren’t operated by Reading Buses.
Concessionary passholders can travel for free after 9am when departing Thames Valley park and ride, and in accordance with the terms of the scheme.
Parking charges must be paid at on-site payment machines at Thames Valley park and ride and on the bus at Mereoak park and ride and apply to all users. Multi day tickets and annual session tickets are also available.

Did you know we have a Traffic and Travel Facebook and Twitter pages?
This is where we post about the most disruptive works that are being carried out the across the borough by gas, electric, water and telecoms companies, as well as maintenance works carried out by us.
The social pages mirror what we list in this newsletter but, due to the nature of social media, we are also able to provide you with updates if things change, due to weather for example. We're also able to update you on any unplanned changes to the road network, like a closure due to an emergency like a burst pipe.
