Plans for shops and other amenities submitted
We've received a planning application from developer Crest Nicholson for a district centre with shops and other amenities on the Arborfield Green development, and we're accepting your comments until Tuesday, 9 May.
The scheme, to be built on land off Nine Mile Ride Extension near Bohunt School and Arborfield Green Leisure Centre, already has outline planning permission so this "reserved matters" application is to decide the finer details.
The proposal comprises 950 sq m of commercial space across 18 units, a community centre with nursery, library and café and a pre-school, as well as potential for a pub and supermarket (subject to a separate application).
It also includes 200 new homes including an affordable element, a public square, pedestrian and cycle access plus related landscaping and open space. The application also covers matters like design, parking and drainage schemes.
The map above can be seen in full on page 67 of the applicant's design and access statement.
Still seeking your views on community centre vision
You've also got until next Friday (28 April) to share your views on the community centre aspect of the proposed district centre.
The former Ministry of Defence training building, which lies on the site near the existing leisure centre, is set to be refurbished and redesigned as part of the overall scheme and we're asking what you think it should offer.
Although the district centre planning application has been submitted, your views will still be taken into account and help influence the outcome.
PLEASE NOTE: This survey is separate from our statutory consultation on Crest's planning application.
More employment units also proposed at Hogwood
We're accepting comments until Saturday, May 6 on plans for light industrial units at Hogwood Farm, off Sheerlands Road, on 2.34 hectares of land to the south-east of the existing industrial estate.
The proposal is for a total of 14 two-storey units, with smaller units on the southern half of the site and a much larger one on the northern half.
This scheme also has outline permission, with the current application deciding more detailed matters like layout, appearance, scale and landscaping.
A helping hand if you're struggling for food
Local charity SHARE is trialling a new site in Arborfield to help people get fresh food if they're struggling with money.
The team offer fresh staples, like bread or fruit and vegetables, for those who need it. These are surplus stock from local supermarkets.
More than 2,000 people across the borough use the service every week and it has saved more than 1,000 tonnes in food waste since it launched.
The Arborfield site runs every other Thursday as a "pop-up" at the Royal British Legion on Eversley Road (RG2 9PR) from 4pm to 6pm. The next dates are:
-
Thursday 20 April
-
Thursday 4 May

Festive fly-tippers put on naughty list
Christmas wrapping and other household waste was recently fly-tipped near the new Arborfield community and we need your help to trace the culprits.
If you know anything about this incident, which took place on Park Lane, Finchampstead, on 24 March, please email our enforcement team.
We also want to know more about two other recent fly tips in:
- Lower Sandhurst Road, near Finchampstead
- Yew Tree Lane in Spencers Wood
Fly-tipping is a crime and we investigate all incidents to search for evidence of who was responsible - and if we can link them to someone, we'll fine them.
For more on this, and your own duty to carry out checks to avoid being fined for hiring a fly tipper, visit our fly-tipping webpages.
You can also sign up for other Wokingham Borough Connect newsletters, which cover varied topics like rubbish and recycling, traffic and travel, what's on, sports, leisure and health, and much more.
