Book football camps for Easter and May half-term
There's good news for children aged five to 15 as Cantley Park in Wokingham will host a series of football camps during the Easter and May half-term school holidays.
The camps are being run by Reading FC Community Trust and take place from 10am to 3pm on:
- Monday 3 to Thursday 6 April
- Tuesday 11 to Friday 14 April
- Tuesday 30 May to Friday 2 June
The sessions will be focused around enjoyment and participation. The coaches will use fun activities and game-based practices to develop and challenge the children.
Whether your child is a confident player or has never played before, the football camps offer an interactive and fun environment for children to develop their technique.
Each session costs £25 and there is an option to book all 12 sessions for £300 on the Reading FC website.
Don't forget, after you have dropped your child off to the football camps, you can pop in to the Cantley Park Café for refreshments, or a bite to eat. The menu includes hot and cold drinks, hot and cold sandwiches, cakes, pastries and snacks. The café is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm and Saturday to Sunday, 8.30am to 4pm.

Well done to the Wokingham Half Marathon runners
It was another successful year for the Wokingham Half Marathon, with thousands of people taking part in the race and many more cheering on from the sidelines last month.
While it was a sell-out for the main race, there was also a great attendance for the Wokingham Children’s Mini-Mile.
Wokingham Borough Mayor Cllr Caroline Smith was delighted to hand out prizes to the winners and to see such a wonderful turnout for the event.
Scott Cousins was the fastest adult, completing the half marathon in one hour, five minutes and ten seconds. Lauren Reed was the quickest female runner on the day, reaching the finish line in one hour, 14 minutes and 14 seconds.
It was a dead heat in the children’s race, with both Jasper Legg and Elliott Langley-Aybar achieving the same time of five minute and six seconds. The fastest girl was Grace Drummond, who crossed the line after six minutes and 26 seconds.
A big well done and congratulations to everyone who took part in the race. To see the results of both races, please visit the Sport Hive website.
New tool launched to search for walking routes
If you’re planning a leisurely hike around the borough, we’ve produced a new online interactive tool in partnership with Loddon Valley Ramblers to make it easier for you.
We’ve updated our definitive rights of way map with help from the charity, whose volunteers walked all 238 km (140 miles) of our footpaths, bridleways and byways and recorded the location of all 84 stiles, 231 gates, 108 bridges, 21 benches and 876 signs.
You can search for the nearest routes in your area, then click on points of interest to find out more. If you encounter something not listed on your travels, report it and we’ll aim to update the map or fix faults as soon as we can.
We hope this map will be especially helpful for people with mobility issues, who may struggle to navigate stiles, and we’re working to replace as many of these with gates as possible.
While you’re out and about, why not take part in the My Journey Wokingham challenge on the Innovation Valley Rewards app? Find out more about this, and what we’re doing to promote walking and cycling more generally, on our My Journey Wokingham page. Happy rambling!
