Wokingham Borough Connect
Would you like to loan an electric cargo bike?
We will be loaning two electric cargo bikes to businesses in the borough for trials to see how an e-cargo bike can benefit their business.
E-cargo bikes can replace cars or vans for most local journeys and are perfect for first and last mile deliveries.
Benefits of e-cargo bikes include:
- Save money on fuel and vehicle costs
- No more parking charges or traffic jams
- Reduce transport emissions
If you wish to play a part in reducing carbon emissions, please send an email to our MyJourney team.
The e-cargo bikes were purchased using the Capability Fund allocated to us by the Department for Transport.
Have your say on your skills needs
The Berkshire Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) is led by the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce working in partnership with the University of Reading. It is funded by the Department for Education.
The team is inviting you to ‘actively shape your future workforce’ by filling out a 10 minute survey before Monday, 6 March 2023. Survey responses are anonymous.
This is a great opportunity to help shape future training provision. LSIPs provide local employers with a platform to explain issues preventing them from finding people with the right knowledge, skills and behaviours or developing their staff to improve productivity.
 Supportive patient transport
This month's Business Spotlight falls on L&T Patient Transport Services, based in Finchampstead.
L&T Patient Transport Services was established following extensive research on the needs of patients and hospital staff as well as hospital transport services, which highlighted a gap in patient transportation.
Their aim is to remove some of the bottlenecks in signposting patients to the right place at the right time.
The team has made countless transportations and critical interventions during times of crisis. They also 'give back' to the community through volunteering and charitable giving.
Reminder: would you like to welcome an intern?
The University of Reading’s internship scheme connects students and organisations through paid four-to-eight week internships, with the University providing support towards the intern's salary.
The team is now looking for organisations to host interns in spring (March to May) and summer (June to August), either in-person, remote or hybrid. You can take on an intern on a part-time basis during term time or full-time during university holidays.
Over 600 students have already registered their interest this year. Your organisation could benefit from fresh ideas to make a real impact.
This scheme is open to charities, non-profits and SMEs up to 250 employees.
If you have any questions, get in touch by emailing Fiorella, Reading Internship Scheme Manager.
 Are you interested in upskilling?
The Green Skills Academy was launched at Langley College last November.
Since then, it has had a wide range of adult students through its doors, who are all eager to acquire the required skills for undertaking work on renewable heating, solar and ventilation systems, electric vehicles and agricultural technology.
The Academy, funded by Berkshire LEP, provides free training to those living and working in Berkshire.
If you want to improve the skills of your workforce, contact Michele Clarke, project coordinator, at michele.clarke@windsor-forest.ac.uk.
