 A trail filled with hearts
This coming February half-term, bring your little ones over to Dinton Pastures Country Park and immerse yourself in nature filled with beautiful hearts.
For the first time, First Days Children's Charity is creating a Heart Trail at Dinton Pastures. It will be a 2.5km trail around the White Swan Lake filled with hearts crocheted by the Barkham Hookers.
From 11 to 19 February, you can buy a map for a suggested donation of £3 from Dinton Nature Buggies or Dinton Adventure Golf, and follow the trail around the White Swan Lake to find letters that spell out a secret word. You will also be able to learn fun facts about your heart as you go along.
After completing the 'mission', simply head back to Dinton Nature Buggies or Dinton Adventure Golf to receive your treat.
All funds raised from this activity will go towards supporting children in need and their families in Berkshire.
Visit the First Day website for more information.
Enjoyable Storytime at Dinton Activity Centre
The first Storytime at Dinton Activity Centre was a great success!
Over 20 parents and young children had a wonderful time listening to stories and poetry read by Tony Knight and our libraries team, as well as enjoying the colouring activities that followed.
Tony, a platform announcer at Wokingham Rail Station, was famous with commuters for his poetry readings. He brought along the green poetry folder that he used on the platform and A A Milne’s book Winnie-the-Pooh: The Complete Collection of Stories and Poems.
Storytime is now a regular feature at Dinton Activity Centre, taking place on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 11am. The next session will be on 7 February.
Entrance is free and no booking is needed.
Our Storytime sessions are generally designed for young children aged two to five, providing them with a fun and enjoyable introduction to books and libraries. We hope sharing books and stories with young children will help build good language and listening skills and give them a head start when they begin school.
Don't miss out - holiday club for February half-term
There are still some places left in our Wild Days Holiday Club for the coming half-term.
From 13 to 17 February (Monday to Friday), our Dinton Activity Centre team will be running a variety of activities including archery, disc golf, climbing, fencing, bushcraft, treasure hunt and more for young people aged eight to 13.
You can sign up your child to either a morning or afternoon session, each offering two adventurous activities led by our experienced instructors.
Each half-day session costs £30. Lunch will be included if you book for a whole day.
To find out more or book a session, visit the Dinton Activity Centre website.
 Weekly Dinton Pastures parkrun
Do you fancy a weekly 5km run at Dinton Pastures?
Dinton Pastures parkrun is a free event organised by volunteers every Saturday at 9am. The route is a 2-lap course starting at the bottom corner of White Swan Lake in the country park.
It is not a race against other runners. You can take part for your own enjoyment and at your own pace! There is also a post parkrun coffee every week in The Coffee House, when you can swap stories about your run with other participants.
You are welcome to join with your dog, but please make sure it is on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead and within reach at all times.
Registration is free and only needs to be done once online. You will receive a registration email with a scannable barcode for recording your results each time.
Organised by parkrun UK, a not-for-profit organisation, the event encourages everyone, regardless of their ability, to run, jog or walk together regularly and enjoy the beautiful Dinton Pastures.
To learn more, check out the Dinton Pastures parkun website.
Have a chat at Chatty Café
The Coffee House, located next to the main car park of Dinton Pastures Country Park, has joined The Chatty Café Scheme to provide a place for lonely members of the community to come and spend some time with others.
The café is currently running the scheme on Mondays and Thursdays, from 9am to 2pm.
All you need to do is to show up, sit down at the 'Chatter and Natter' tables and get chatting. Staff at the cafe are always on hand to help.
