Storytime coming to Dinton Activity Centre
Let's welcome Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin to Dinton Pastures!
Our Library Service team is bringing its popular, interactive Storytime to Dinton Activity Centre every first and third Tuesday of the month, from 11am to 11.30am. The first session will be on 17 January (next Tuesday).
The Storytime sessions at Dinton will be hosted by Tony Knight, a platform announcer at Wokingham Station who was famous with commuters for his poetry readings. He will be bringing along the green poetry folder that he used on the platform and A A Milne’s book Winnie-the-Pooh: The Complete Collection of Stories and Poems.
Tony's heart-warming stories and poems will be followed by simple craft or colouring activities led by our Library Service team for children to take home their creativity and imagination.
Entrance is free and no booking is needed. Just pop into The Coffee Deck at Dinton Activity Centre, grab a seat and have a great time with your child!
Our Library Storytime sessions are generally designed for young children aged two to five, providing them with a fun and enjoyable introduction to books and libraries. We hope sharing books and stories with young children can help build good language and listening skills and give them a head start when they begin school.
Wild Days Holiday Club back for half-term
There is always something to keep your children entertained during the school holidays at Dinton Pastures Country Park!
The Wild Days Holiday Club will be back for the coming February half-term, offering a range of activities including archery, disc golf, climbing, fencing, bushcraft, treasure hunt and more.
Designed for all aged eight to 13, Wild Days sessions take place every morning and afternoon from 13 to 17 February (Monday to Friday). Two adventurous sports will be arranged for each session, so there will be four different activities on each day.
Each half-day session costs £30. A lunch cover will be included if you book for a whole day.
Visit our website to find out more or reserve a place.
Outdoor parties for children or adults
If you are looking for a memorable birthday party for your child, or a gathering for friends who love being outdoors, our team at Dinton Activity Centre will put together a celebration with a difference.
Parties for children are offered on Sundays only, allowing young ones to spend half a day on land or in the water enjoying a range of activities like stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, archery, climbing and crate stacking. There is also an option of a fun indoor climbing evening.
Every session is led by a qualified and experienced instructor. Basic tuition will be provided to get everyone started, followed by different games and challenges.
Parties for adults are equally exciting and adventurous. You can choose a minimum of two land and/or water activities for your event, including canoeing, kayaking, archery, rock climbing and more. Our experienced instructors will guide you and provide instructions tailored to your group.
There can also be team challenges where you can work your way through a selection of fun tasks to test your group’s tactical thinking.
To find out more, visit the Dinton Activity Centre website.
For enquiries about bookings or other questions, contact the team by calling 0118 934 4424, sending them an email or completing our Party Enquiry Form online.
Night run around Dinton Pastures
Dinton Pastures Country Park looks different in every light!
Join the 2.2 Night Run organised by Barnes Fitness and see how beautiful it can be when it is illuminated by runners with torch lights and glow sticks.
The event on 2 February (Thursday) combines two runs into one, allowing participants to choose to run as many 2.2 mile loops as they want in 1 hour and 22 minutes or just one lap of 5.02 miles around the country park.
Starting and finishing points will be at the Dinton Activity Centre, where runners can keep warm or dry and even change and shower afterwards.

‘Leaf' a legacy by planting your free tree
If you have a Wokingham borough postcode, you can claim up to 10 free trees to plant on your land as part of our campaign to improve the environment and fight climate change.
Following a successful pilot round, which saw 800 people collect a sapling at the start of the planting season, we’re inviting applications for the second phase of our Garden Forest Scheme until Sunday, 12 February.
We hope to process these by the end of the season in March, when we’ll contact successful applicants to pick up their tree from a point within the borough. The scheme is open to anyone local, including businesses or community groups, who own land or can access land where the owner allows planting.
We’re offering hazel, crab apple, rowan, silver birch and field maple and we’ll try to accommodate your preferences where we can. To find out more, fill out the form on our Engage platform – you’ll need to register but it’s quick and free of charge.
While you’re at it, don’t forget to share your thoughts on our draft Tree Strategy, which we’re drawing up to improve how we plant and manage trees across the borough.
