Wokingham Borough Connect
 Don't be a selfish parker
On average, we hand out 1,200 penalty notices a year across the borough for parking in a disabled space without a valid badge.
Disabled spaces are there for people who need them, offering more space closer to where people are going.
Not all disabilities are visible. People may need a blue badge because:
- They can't walk without help, or find walking difficult
- They have a young child who needs to be near a vehicle in case they need emergency medical treatement
- They are constantly a significant risk to themselves or others near vehicles
- They regularly have intense and overwhelming responses to situations causing temporary loss of behavioural control
By having access to disabled spaces, it gives people more freedom and independence, allowing them to access shops, leisure, work and services in a way that is safe and manageable.
Mis-use of a disabled bay includes:
- Using a badge that is no longer valid
- Parking in the wrong place
- Using a badge that has been reported as lost or stolen
- Letting another person use your badge
- Using a copied badge
- Altering the details on a badge
- Making a fraudulent application
- Continuing to use a badge when it is no longer needed
Please think of others and don't be a selfish parker.
 New Leopard Bus 3 route
A new year brings a new route for Leopard Bus 3, which will be taking advantage of the new section of the Nine Mile Ride Extension which opened last month.
From Monday 2 January, the route, which previously went along Biggs Lane and Park Lane, will now use the Nine Mile Ride Extension, Sheerlands Avenue and Princess Marina Drive.
Two new bus stops will be added at Harvest Path, just south of Bohunt School and Hogwood Lane and Marino Way, south of Hogwood industrial estate.
The new route will provide a better route for pupils travelling to and from Bohunt School.
You can see a map of the revised route and new timetable at My Journey Wokingham.
 Train strikes continue
Strikes on the rail network which begun last year continue through this weekend.
Strikes are due to finish on Saturday 7 January, with delays and schedule changes expected on Sunday 8 January.

Travel for less with Reading Buses
Reading Buses have announced that they are capping single bus fares at a maximum of £2 from January through till March 31.
The cap is part of a national government promotion and will be valid on all single journeys across the network (apart from school travel and football buses). The scheme, which is being rolled out nationally, aims to encourage more people to take the bus and help to reduce emissions and congestion by taking an estimated two million cars off the roads.
For more information, including how to pay, route planners, live updates and even how to become a bus driver, visit Reading Buses website.
