Wokingham Borough Connect
Free parking for festive shoppers
We will be providing free car parking on the two Saturdays before Christmas (17 and 24 December).
As we have said over the last couple of months, we are facing unprecedented financial pressures, with costs spirally upward and sources of income largely fixed or dropping, causing us to have to make some difficult decisions.
We will therefore be unable to provide the usual free weekend parking for all Saturdays in December.
We know free festive parking has been popular for many years, and not offering would seem unfair given the pressure we all feel. We felt it important to find a good balance between protecting our finances and supporting our residents and local shops.
On site parking machines or Ringo will continue to accept payment on the free parking days so please ensure you remember not to pay as we will not be able to provide refunds. There will be signs up at all applicable car parks.
Visit our news website for further information on all car parks where free parking will be available on 17 and 24 December.
Further rail disruptions from 13 December
Due to industrial action, there will be significantly reduced train services across the rail network from Tuesday 13 December until Monday 9 January.
Trains will be busier and likely to start later and finish earlier, and there will be no services at all in some places.
Further information can be found on the South Western Railway website and the Network Rail website. You can also plan your journey on the National Rail website.
National speed limit restored on the M4
Highways England has announced that the national speed limit has been restored on the M4 between junctions 4 and 8/9 which marks the lifting of the final restriction on the upgraded M4 between junctions 4 and 12.
A section between junctions 3 and 4 in West London will remain at 60mph to help manage air quality in the area, and to manage traffic into London.
If you’d like to know more about the main features of smart motorways and what to do in an emergency, visit Highway England's ‘Driving on motorways’ hub.
Reuniting owners with their bikes
Thames Valley Police (TVP) is looking to reunite owners with bikes that have been recovered in Reading following a series of thefts.
The bikes are believed to have been stolen from across the Thames Valley, particularly Reading, Bracknell and Wokingham.
TVP are inviting anyone in Wokingham Borough who believes their stolen bike may be among the recovered haul to get in touch.
Photographs of four bicycles can be found on the TVP website though additional bikes have been recovered which are not pictured.
If you believe your items may be among those bikes recovered please go to the TVP website quoting reference number 43220395732.
