Happy ending for stolen dogs after thee years missing
A delighted dog owner who made a round trip of more than 200 miles from Wales was reunited with his stolen beagles after they were found wandering near Twyford and traced through their microchips.
Our animal wardens took in and identified one of the pair (pictured above) while a local vet helped with the other. When we called the owner, he was already picking up his other dog, who had been handed in around the same time. That dog was also chipped, so the vet had called him directly.
Although the beagles were stolen about three years ago, they immediately recognised their former owner when he arrived to pick them up and were excited to go back to their warm and loving home.
We’re sharing their heart-warming story to illustrate the value of being chipped – which is a legal requirement in England for dogs over eight weeks old.
We handle up to 150 similar cases every year and recently rehomed an eight-week-old puppy and an adult cocker spaniel, who is likely to have been the puppy’s mother as she had recently given birth. They were found on the same stretch of road near Crowthorne.
Meanwhile, a man from Finchampstead has been convicted by our partners for breaching consumer protection laws around the sale of puppies in a separate case.
He had misled three consumers by false representations as to the health, breed, age, vaccination, and microchip status of three puppies advertised for sale on Gumtree in 2020.

Sleeping out to help out
Our teams joined some of our charity and voluntary partners with their sleeping bags and blankets for a night under the stars for charity.
They slept in Howard Palmer Gardens in Wokingham on Thursday night (24 November) to raise money for the Salvation Army.
The team were also raising awareness about the support available from us for those who may find themselves homeless within the borough.
Thanks to all the residents and supporters who came along on the night to have a cup of tea and show their support.
Finchampstead and Arborfield mobile vaccine bus
Mobile vaccination centres are coming to Finchampstead and Arborfield next month to offer further protection against Covid-19. Vaccines remain our best protection against severe disease and hospitalisation this winter.
No booking is needed for mobile clinics, just turn up on the day. Protection provided by vaccines decreases over time, so getting a booster is essential.
These clinics are for anybody aged 50 or over, pregnant women, people in a clinical risk group, and frontline health and social care workers. It is also suitable for anybody aged 16 or over who has only completed their primary course. The next clinics are on:
- Monday 5 December, 11am to 4pm, FBC Centre, Gorse Ride North, Finchampstead, RG40 4ES
- Sunday 18 December, 10am to 4pm, Henry Stret Garden Centre, Swallowfield Road, Arborfield, RG2 9YJ
If you are thinking of attending, please bring your NHS number and wear a face covering.
These mobile clinics are in addition to the regular ones being held our offices at Shute End in Wokingham. You can view dates and more information on our website. If you are using the clinic at Shute End, it is advised you book in advance, although walk-ins are available depending on capacity.
