Go for a Glow Walk at Dinton Pastures
Do you fancy an autumn walk around a lake under starlight?
First Days, a children’s charity, is organising a Glow Walk at Dinton Pastures Country Park on Saturday 26 November to raise funds for its work on child poverty.
From 5pm, you can walk around Black Swan Lake under the stars and take in the illuminated woodland and various light features. The last start time is 8pm.
Hot chocolate, hot dogs and mulled wine will be on sale, so you can bring something warm with you while immersing yourself in the lights.
To add in more fun, you are encouraged to put on your own accessories to make yourself glow in the dark! You may also buy some glow sticks on-site, if you wish.
To make the event accessible to as many people as possible, First Days is offering tickets at four different prices starting at £5 per adult. You can contribute based on your own circumstances and how much you can afford.
To find out more and book a ticket, visit the First Days website.
Pass the test to make sure your blanket is safe
Make sure your electric blanket is safe to use this winter and get it tested at Wokingham Fire Station on Wednesday 2 November.
Free checks are being carried out by the fire service and Trading Standards from 9am to 3.30pm and each slot is 30 minutes long. There are a limited number of slots available and you must book before attending.
Some of the reasons why electric blankets fail a test:
- More than ten years old and have no safety features built into the controller
- A leakage of voltage to the surface of the blanket
- Elements able to move around inside the blanket with the potential to rub together and cause a short circuit
- Elements not secured within the blanket and exposed to the surface
- Power lead fasteners broken and unable to be secured
- Surface of the blanket is worn, exposing the elements
If you are unable to get your electric blanket tested on this date, check for wear and tear and frayed wires before using it this winter. If it is more than ten years old, it is recommended that you replace the blanket.
