BXGFit gets spooky with Halloween-themed classes
Our BXGFit boxing hub in Wokingham is getting into the Halloween spirit this October!
Visitors to the state-of-the-art boxing fitness gym can expect to see lots of decorations and there will be plenty of fun classes and challenges throughout the month. We've also been playing around with the names of some of our classes, including zombie squats, broomstick twists and spider curls to name a few.
There will be Halloween-themed playlists, red lighting and instructors may even be wearing a mask.
Also this month, there are prizes to be won by taking part in our 10kcal Air Bike Challenge. Hop on the high-intensity interval training bike and go as fast as you can to burn 10 calories in least amount of time. At the end of the month, we will look at the top scores and the winners will get a mystery prize.
The hub is located at Peach Place and is open from 6.30am to 8pm on weekdays and 8am to 4pm on weekends. Feel free to drop in for a free tour or book a class online.
Experience the outdoors on our new traffic-free path
Have you cycled or walked our newly opened traffic-free path in Wokingham?
The latest of our greenways, a network of mostly traffic-free routes linking major destinations in the borough, has been officially opened to the public.
It crosses Woosehill Meadows, between Reading Road and Heron Road in Wokingham town, as part of a new link between Cantley Park and Arborfield Cross. This is one of several planned connections between the borough’s major new housing developments, with funding largely provided by the developers, and existing settlements.
It is proving popular with residents, including pupils of the nearby Windmill, Hawthorns and St Paul’s primary schools, who use it to get to school. Both are designated “air quality schools” which work with our My Journey Wokingham team to monitor air pollution and reduce it by changing how they travel.
The new greenway has a hard, permeable surface to make it accessible in all weathers, particularly for users of wheelchairs, buggies and more, and will blend in with its surroundings as the grass on either side grows back. The area around Kingfisher Bridge to the south, which was muddy and messy, has also been tidied up.
The next stage will be a section along Coombes Lane and Coles Lane near Barkham, with work set to start this month.

Spot the signs this Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Every October, people all over the world show their support for everyone affected by breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month aims to increase awareness of the disease, as well as to raise funds for vital research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
Many people with secondary breast cancer experience delays in diagnosis and - although it is much more rare - men can get breast cancer too.
Sadly, not all breast cancer cases are preventable. But studies show that at least 30% of cases are. By making changes to your lifestyle, you can reduce your risk of getting breast cancer. Increasing the amount of physical activity you do can significantly reduce your risk of breast cancer.
There is lots of information available:
Cllr Beth Rowland, Deputy Mayor of Wokingham Borough, recently took part in a charity headshave for Macmillan Cancer Support and raised £1,170.
