Charity concert for Ukraine
If you love great music and helping to raise money for an important cause then why not head along to Bracknell and Wokingham Community Band's (BWCB) concert for Ukrainian refugees.
The BWCB Second Wind band will be joined by ladies choir Cantata Conviva to host an evening of fun music on Sunday 9 October, 7pm, at Wokingham Methodist Church, Rose Street, Wokingham.
Tickets cost £12.50 and all proceeds will go towards the Chance to Thrive fund which helps to support young Ukrainian refugees in the local community. For tickets please email BCWB at secondwindbwcb@outlook.com
SEND Voices Local Offer Live is back
If you have a child or young person aged 0 to 25 with special educational needs or disability (SEND), join SEND Voices Wokingham in partnership with us and CAN Network on 8 October, 11am to 3pm at St Crispin’s Leisure Centre, Wokingham.
There will be information stands where parents and carers can find out more about support, services and activities, as well as entertainment including face painting and circus skills for children. It is free to attend, but please book tickets in advance.
Celebrate National Poetry Day at the Carnival Hub
Members of Wokingham Library's Poetry Group will be celebrating National Poetry Day this year with live readings of their own work in the new Wokingham Library at the Carnival Hub.
If you've not had a chance to visit our fabulous new library yet it's a great opportunity to come along and see it for yourself while finding out more about one of the local literary groups who are making the new Hub their home.
The readings will be held on Thursday 6 October from 6.30pm to 8pm and refreshments will be available on the night.

Children's book festival is back with packed line-up
Young readers get ready as we’ve some incredible, award-winning authors coming to Wokingham in October for the fifth year of the Wokingham Children’s Book Festival.
The schedule is jam-packed with fun and engaging events with authors, illustrators and inspirational storytellers lined up to get everyone excited about books and the creative processes behind writing.
The festival line-up features big names, with a total of 16 sessions taking place over the weekend of 15 and 16 October. Events are at Wokingham Town Hall and the new Wokingham Library at the Carnival Hub.
As well as in-person sessions, there is also the chance to join in some sessions that are being livestreamed. Check out the events schedule for more information on all the activities taking place during the weekend.
Tickets for live events remain at £3 per seat, while access to streamed sessions is £3 per household.

Domestic abuse prevention convention
Kaleidoscopic UK, a local charity for survivors of domestic abuse, is running their annual Domestic Abuse Prevention Convention event on Thursday 13 October. The event takes place during Domestic Violence Awareness Month at the FBC Centre in Finchampstead.
The convention features a full day of topics and talks delivered by inspirational domestic abuse survivors and multi-agency professionals including the Domestic Abuse Commissioner’s Office, Dr Nicola Sharp-Jeffs, Luke Martin, Vickie Robertson, Dr Emma Katz, Sistah Space, Lisa Lee and more.
The aim of the convention is to inspire, educate and empower all delegates by advancing knowledge and providing useful tools for all to use with resources available.
The convention topics include:
- Stalking
- Coercive control
- Economic abuse
- CSA & CSE
- LGBTQIA+
- Children
- Family Law
- Domestic Abuse Act
- Valerie’s Law
- Best practice responses
- How being trauma informed is essential

Celebrate Wade with a concert at the Carnival Hub
Our flagship new community space, the Carnival Hub in Wokingham, is set to show it's cultural credentials as it hosts two fantastic concerts, in aid of the new Wade Dementia Day Care fund on Saturday 19 November.
Music fans will be spoilt for choice with an afternoon of big band music from The Official Glenn Miller Orchestra UK and celebrated director Ray McVay followed by an outstanding evening of entertainment from ‘Ultimate Elton and the Rocket Band’ and ‘The Police Academy’.
Tickets are expected to sell out quickly so make sure to purchase your ticket soon so you don't miss out on enjoying some great entertainment, as well as joining in on this landmark first event at the Hub.
Afternoon entertainment

Profits from the events will go to new Dementia Day Care fund at Wade Day Care Centre, Wokingham, which helps offer daytime dementia respite care facilities to support the local community.
Recovery college autumn courses
The Wokingham Recovery College gives people with mental health problems the chance to access education, workshops and training programmes designed to help them on their road to recovery. The college aims to help people become experts in their own self-care and enable family, friends and staff to better understand mental health.
Upcoming classes for October include:
- Understanding emotions - Thursday 6 and 13 October, 1.30pm to 3pm
- Managing anxiety (online) - Tuesday 11, 18 and 25 October, 1.30pm to 3pm
- What employment support is available to me? - Friday 21 October, 10am to 11.30am
- Improving self esteem (online) - Friday 28 October, 10am to 11.30am
- Four seasons arts and crafts - every Monday, 1.30pm to 3.30pm

Registrations are accepted from anyone aged 18 and over living in Wokingham Borough. The majority of courses are free to attend.
