Local Proclamation of King Charles III
The Wokingham Borough Mayor Cllr Caroline Smith read the proclamation of the new Sovereign His Majesty The King on Sunday (September 11).
Residents from across the borough attended the local Proclamation, which is a traditional announcement of the new Monarch, at the Wokingham Town Hall in a ceremony hosted by Wokingham Town Council.
The ceremony began with the Reverend Canon Richard Lamey explaining the history of proclamations, followed by the Proclamation reading by the Wokingham Borough Mayor.
The ceremony does not create a new King. It is simply an announcement of the accession which took place immediately upon the death of the reigning Monarch.
A video of the Proclamation is available to view on our YouTube channel.
Remembering Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
There has been an outpouring of emotion and support for the Royal Family following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
To celebrate her life and 70 years on the throne, we would like to hear about your memories of our longest-serving Monarch.
Contributions will be printed and made into a book of remembrance that will be displayed at libraries around the borough and at our Civic Offices at Shute End.
You can add your own contributions on our Engage Wokingham Borough platform.
You can also send contributions to cem@wokingham.gov.uk or contact us if you only have hard copies and would like us to scan them.
