Wokingham Borough Connect
Your views on electronic traffic signs
We want to hear your thoughts on the new electronic message signs which we’ve installed to tackle congestion in eight hotspots around Wokingham borough.
There are two of these in Wokingham town, two in and around Earley, two in the north of the borough and two in the south, all in places where queues tend to build at peak times.
They can be programmed to show a variety of messages to help you make better decisions about how, when and where to travel, including the cause of any delays and alternative routes or travel options.
We want to know whether these are clear and easy to understand – and whether they’ve helped you with any of your recent journeys.
By sharing your views, you'll be helping us ensure they're working as effectively as possible. It's only a short survey and we'd be thankful for a few minutes of your time.
You can respond using the button below.
Do you have a concessionary bus pass?
If you have a concessionary bus pass for Wokingham borough, please check that we have your current address.
Every five years we need to renew all 24,000 passes we issue to eligible residents. We’ll start this from 9 August onwards.
The passes are available to residents who have reached the state pension age or who have certain conditions affecting their mobility for 12 months or more.
If pass holders have moved without updating us with their new address, their pass could be sent to their previous address. Pass holders probably won’t realise they haven’t received their new pass until the old one expires on 30 September.
If you have moved home in the past five years and not passed on your details, please email us at concessionarytravel@wokingham.gov.uk.
If you think you might be eligible for a concessionary bus pass, please visit our transport and travel passes webpage.
Tackling unauthorised car meets
Have you been affected by unauthorised car meets?
We are considering adopting a Car Cruising Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), which would give us greater powers to tackle dangerous and anti-social behaviour, ensuring the borough is a safe place to live. Car cruising is the term for when drivers meet to race or show off their vehicles.
This would restrict the activities associated with unauthorised meets, including dangerous driving, racing, aggressive acceleration and braking, sounding horns, playing loud music, foul language and threatening behaviour.
If the PSPO is created, anyone who does not comply could be fined up to £1,000, or receive a fixed penalty notice of up to £100. It can be enforced by a police officer, police community support officer, or an accredited council officer.
We want to hear from you about how car meets have affected you, and what you think of our proposed plans to tackle them. Follow the button below to complete a short survey.
Arborfield Village improvements starting soon
The final part of the Observer Way project will start at the end of the month, improving roads around Arborfield village and Arborfield Cross, with traffic calming measures and new planting.
The 2.3km relief road, connects the A327 Reading Road to the A327 Eversley Road and has a cycle and footway along its length, plus an award-winning "green bridge" that's suitable for horse riders and has special features to help wildlife cross safely..
Now we're following this up with further improvements to the neighbouring villages, starting at the end of the month:
- Gateways at the village entrances with other features to encourage slower speeds
- A filter on School Road to restrict through traffic and improve cycle access
- Road narrowing and new markings in the Eversley Road area
- Speed limit reductions to 30mph on Reading Road, Church Lane, Eversley Road, Swallowfield Road and a section of Sindlesham Road and to 20mph on School Road
The improvements have been reviewed by the police, our highways officers and others, who looked at speeds, signage and traffic modelling to ensure the scheme would have an overall benefit to road safety and the local environment.
