Wokingham Borough Connect
Jubilee road closures
People across the borough are getting ready to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, with almost 100 roads closed for street parties across the four days.
We have now published a list of road closures on our Platinum Jubilee hub, where you can see an interactive map of closures across the borough as well as a list showing closures by area.
Although roads will be closed, access will be maintained at all times for residents and businesses.
Still time to sign up to The Bike Month Challenge
People all over the borough have been using pedal power to clock up the miles in this year's The Bike Month Challenge by Love to Ride.
So far, almost 300 of you have cycled a whopping 28,886 miles, saving 3,246lb of CO2, around the same as charging 180,000 smart phones.
As well as getting active and reducing carbon emissions, every time you log a ride this month, you increase your chance of winning some great prizes.
To find out more and to sign up, visit Love to Ride.
How we work with schools
Wokingham’s Air Quality Project is part of My Journey Wokingham, which focuses on improving air quality around the borough, and promotes the many benefits of walking, cycling and scooting to school.
Earlier this year, our My Journey Air Quality officer worked with a group of Year 4 pupils at Floreat Montague Primary School, one of the borough’s ten air quality schools.
Pupils participated in a workshop where they learnt all about the diffusion tubes located around their school, used for measuring nitrogen dioxide gas.
In the second half of the workshop the pupils got to use their own bikes around a course in the playground to discover how doing physical exercise, such as cycling, can boost their health and wellbeing and help them to learn better.
You can hear more about the day from Jamie and Sienna, two pupils from Floreat Montague Park Primary School.
