Free compost bags for community groups
Re3, the waste management partnership between Wokingham Borough, Bracknell Forest, and Reading Councils and FCC Environment, is offering up to 5,000 (40L) bags of compost, free of charge, to selected local community groups.
Community groups can apply by visiting the re3 website. Applications will be reviewed and assessed by re3 at the end of May, June and July and groups will be contacted to let them know if they have been successful.
Re3’s compost is currently on sale for £4.00 per 40L bag at the household waste and recycling centres in Bracknell and Reading. It is high-quality, peat-free and made from recycled garden waste.
Providing free compost to community groups will promote recycling and community activities in the borough.
Jubilee bank holiday waste collections
Waste and recycling collections will continue as normal over the upcoming Jubilee bank holiday, but with an earlier start for our crews.
Our teams will hit the streets from 5.30am, an hour earlier than usual. Please be sure to put your waste out the night before to avoid being missed.
You can check your collection day on our website
Waste Less, Recycle More
Recycling is a great thing to do. Most of the plastics we use at home can be recycled.
Most of us already recycle empty toiletries and cleaner bottles on a daily basis, but we may forget that we can also recycle empty aerosols. Perfume and aftershave glass bottles should be taken to your nearby bottle banks, instead of placing them into the blue rubbish bags.
Here is a handy list of top ten items that can be recycled from your bathroom:
- Shampoo and conditioner bottles
- Shower gel and bubble bath bottles
- Cardboard boxes, like toothpaste or soap boxes
- Toilet roll tubes
- Bathroom cleaner and bleach bottles
- Deodorants
- Shaving foam
- Hand soap bottles (but remember you can’t recycle the pump dispenser)
- Moisturiser bottles
- Perfume and aftershave glass bottles (take them to the bottle bank)
Soft plastics recycling
Do you know that most plastic bags and wrappers can be recycled? They account for 25% of the plastics in our homes but only 6% are recycled.
Although they cannot be put into your green bags, take them to your nearest soft plastics recycling location. If you’re unsure where that is, Greenredeem’s recycling locator can help, sign up for free today or log into your account.
