Adult education courses booking for summer term
Booking is now open for adult education courses in Wokingham borough, with a range of options available to help with skills for work and life, wellbeing, parenting and family life, and community groups.
All courses are free unless otherwise stated and those with a charge are free to those in receipt of certain benefits.
Courses include:
- Digital skills for beginners
- Building your confidence to get back into work or volunteering
- Excel for work (£30)
- IT skills for work (£30)
- Introduction to being a teaching assistant and working in schools (£45)
- English for speakers of other languages (£45)
- Understanding primary education in England (£30)
- Helping your child with English (£45)
Certain courses can be taken for free or reduced costs if you receive benefits or are a refugee. You can find out more about the different courses and eligibility on the Wokingham Adult Education website, by emailing adult.education@wokingham.gov.uk or phoning 07785 314603 to apply.
Courses to help with moderate mental health issues
Our adult education team also offers a series of Wellbeing in Mind courses, run by Activate Learning, and designed for people aged 19 and above with issues such as stress, low mood, and mild to moderate mental health issues.
Places can be booked on these courses by emailing wellbeing@bracknell.ac.uk or by calling (01344) 766654.
Wellbeing in Mind courses include:
- Six steps to better mental health
- Mindfulness seasonal nature walk
- Yoga for wellbeing
- Relax with ceramics

Free tech support at Wokingham Library
Having issues with your laptop, tablet or smartphone? We've got sessions to help you learn how to use your technology.
You can go to Wokingham Library every Tuesday from 2pm to 4pm, to see local business Pratts Pods which is running a free 'tech savvy' session to help residents get the best out of their technology.
Sessions are drop in, or you can book a slot in advance on the Pratts Podds' website.

Jubilee Reminiscence chats at your local library
As we’re approaching the celebrations for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee join us to discuss your memories of Jubilees in times past.
Enjoy a chat with some tea or coffee and cake and tell us what you remember about royal celebrations in years gone bye!

Coronation catwalk with Meridith Towne
We are welcoming Meridith Towne back to Wokingham Library with her latest fabulous costume presentation on Wednesday 18 May, 2pm to 3.30pm.
To mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in style, join our session with Meridith as she plans her outfit for the Coronation.
Whether you’ll be at Westminster Abbey or in your own front room with a new telly, you’ll want to wear an outfit fit for a Queen!
Peruse the fashion mags and order your sewing patterns, it’s time to treat yourself to some fabulous 1950s frocks. Grab your starched petticoats, hang up the bunting and get ready for the street party!
Tickets for this event cost £6, payable on the day at Wokingham Library. Pre-booking is essential and attendees can only book one ticket per person.

Woky Wheels 4 All at Finchampstead
We believe cycling is for everyone. Come along and try out one of MyJourney's recumbent tricycles at their sessions during May to help practice and improve your cycling.
The tricycles are perfect for anybody with balance or mobility issues. Standard two-wheeled bicycles are also available to borrow.
Sessions take place at the Bike Shack at the Track, Gorse Ride North, Finchampstead (RG40 4ES). Dates include:
- Thursday 5 May, 10am to 11am or 11am to 12noon
- Thursday 12 May, 10am to 11am or 11am to 12noon
- Thursday 19 May, 10am to 11am or 11am to 12noon
- Thursday 26 May, 10am to 11am or 11am to 12noon

Take part in the Wokingham Walk
If you've ever wanted to learn more about the great places you can walk in the borough, and try some of our lovely public rights of way and routes for yourself, then the Wokingham Walk is the perfect event.
Starting at Elms Field in Wokingham town centre, the event is an annual charity walk organised by the Wokingham Lions with routes of five, 10 or 15 miles to choose from. There's also an accessible five mile route to enjoy.
The walk takes place on Sunday 8 May and has a rolling start time from 9am to 10.30am with participants able to complete the route at their own pace.
Entries cost £15 for adults, £5 for children aged 12 to 17 and is free for those aged under 12. All proceeds raised from the walk will be used to support local charities.
