Walk-in vaccinations at Wokingham Library
Don’t forget there is a dedicated Covid-19 vaccine centre at Wokingham Library – so please make good use of this while we have it. It’s open 2pm to 7pm on Fridays and 11am to 4.45pm on Saturdays and Sundays, with no appointment necessary.
The vaccines on offer have changed with the start of the Spring Booster programme. The Spring Booster programme offers a Moderna vaccine to those over the age of 75. Moderna is also given as the first booster for anyone over the age of 18. Anyone under the age of 18 needs to be given Pfizer for their first and second dose.
First, second, booster and spring booster doses of the vaccine are available on these days:
- Moderna on Fridays– for Spring Boosters (over 75s) and anyone 18 or older who wants their first booster (Moderna is not given to under 18s)
- Pfizer on Saturdays and Sundays – for anyone aged 12 or older for first, second and first booster doses (does not include the Spring Booster)
The site is open to all eligible people, including:
- People not registered with a GP or those without an NHS number
- People with no indefinite leave to remain status
Other ways to get your vaccine:
Spring Boosters are also available at your GP, or by booking an appointment through the NHS website or at other walk-in vaccination centres.
Spring booster
The Spring booster is now available if you are:
- aged 75 and over
- or a resident in a care home
- or aged 12 years and above with a weakened immunity
The Spring booster will be offered around six months from your last vaccination and not before three months (91 days).
Appointments will be available to book through the NHS National Booking Service, and you’ll be able to receive the vaccine at your GP, at community pharmacies, at walk-in clinics including the Wokingham Library on Fridays, and from the Health on the Move bus when it is here in the Borough.
If booking through the National Booking Service, you’ll be offered dates from three months (91 days) after your previous dose but booking an appointment around six months after your previous dose is preferable to get maximum protection.
If you have any questions, please email our Covid vaccine support team on covid.info@wokingham.gov.uk
Vaccination for children aged five to 11-years-old
From 4 April, all children aged five to 11-years-old will be eligible for two doses of the vaccine 12 weeks apart.
If you are a parent or guardian, you will receive information offering you the chance to make an appointment for your child, with an explanation of how to do this.
Appointments will be available from your GP, in community pharmacies and in some walk-in clinics including the Wokingham Library vaccination clinic. Keep a look out nearer the time for five to 11-year-old vaccination dates at the Wokingham library clinic.
If you have any questions, please email our Covid vaccine support team on covid.info@wokingham.gov.uk
FREE Covid-19 testing is finishing next week
From 1 April, Central Government will no longer provide free PCR tests or lateral flow tests (LFTs) to individuals or local authorities. In line with this end to test supply our local PCR and LFT testing sites will be closing during the next week.
LFTs will be available to purchase from high street retailers if you would like to continue using them.
Our Shute End testing centre will be closing on Wednesday (30 March) and will only be offering assisted testing until then. If you need LFTs go online to order.
All PCR testing sites, including Dinton Pastures, will be closing on Wednesday 30 March. As a reminder, you must have an appointment to attend – you can book this in advance through the Gov.uk website.

Day to day living with Covid-19
As we begin to adjust to living with Covid-19 there are things we can continue doing to help keep yourself and your loved ones safe:
-
If unwell, stay home and don’t socialise – even if it is a common cold and not Covid-19 you may still have an illness which could be passed on to your friends and loved ones
-
Wash your hands regularly and cover coughs and sneezes - Follow the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ guidance. Regular hand washing is an effective way to reduce your risk of catching illnesses and passing them on to your loved ones
-
Open windows to keep the air circulating - this is especially important when seeing loved ones that are vulnerable as the fresh air helps to disperse any viruses we may breathe out
-
Consider wearing a face mask – if in crowded indoor spaces with people you don’t know, such as supermarkets, shopping centres and cinemas
-
Get vaccinated – If you haven’t already had all your vaccinations get them booked in and keep yourself and your loved ones up to date with Covid-19 vaccinations as they are announced
