Wokingham Borough Connect
 Eastern Gateway opens
The latest section of a major road that will serve planned new homes in Wokingham town has opened. A ribbon was cut at the Eastern Gateway, part of our South Wokingham Distributor Road, by staff and pupils at the neighbouring Floreat Montague Park Primary School.
The Eastern Gateway, which includes an off-road cycle path, links William Heelas Way, which runs through the community’s Montague Park area, with a new roundabout on the other side of the railway at Waterloo Road.
The scheme is part of our £250 million major new roads initiative, which is funding multiple new roads and other improvements as part of our Local Plan.
The South Wokingham Distributor Road will include a new central section running westwards from the Waterloo Road roundabout and across Easthampstead Road to join Finchampstead Road near the Tesco superstore, with an improved junction at Finchampstead Road and Molly Millars Lane.
Meanwhile the project's counterpart, the North Wokingham Distributor Road, is almost built with only the final sections to the west of Old Forest Road, at Toutley Road and from Bell Foundry Lane to Warren House Road due to open to traffic this summer.
Have your say: proposed cycle link between Woodley and Reading
As part of the Government’s Active Travel Fund, we are working to improve the cycle and walking connection between Woodley town centre and the Reading borough boundary at Palmer Park.
Following an initial engagement exercise last year, we have launched a further consultation on more detailed proposals along the Woodley / Reading Active Travel Route.
The scheme includes local measures that prioritise active travel and provide facilities that are safe, attractive and inclusive for all. The aim is to provide a transport system that connects people and places and supports a sustainable, inclusive and striving towards being a carbon neutral borough.

Have your say: Taxi fare increase
We are asking for your views on a proposal to increase taxi fares for the first time since 2010, following a request submitted to the Licensing and Appeals Committee. The proposal is a request by the Licensed Hackney Carriages (Taxis) and looks to increase the fares for hackney taxis to reflect increases in the cost of living.
The proposed changes include bringing forward the time late evening tariffs apply, from 11pm to 10:30pm; increasing the charging rate; increasing the charge for an extra passenger; and increasing the cost if a taxi needs to be cleaned because of a passenger.
The proposed changes are available on the Public Protection Partnership website and includes contact details to share your views.
