Last chance to have your say on new housing
There’s only a few days left to give your views on potential locations for new housing and other infrastructure in the borough.
Our Local Plan Update consultation closes at 5pm on Monday (24 January). The new local plan will manage development across the borough looking as far ahead as 2038.
It will set out how we’ll delivery vital amenities like schools, shops, new roads, green spaces, community centres and sports halls or pitches alongside new housing.
We’ve produced a video series answering your most common questions on the plan, including why we can’t refuse new housing, why potential development locations have been chosen and more.
 Cracking down on car meets
We’ve been working alongside our partners at Thames Valley Police to crack down on car meets creating anti-social behaviour in our borough.
Police moved on a large group and seized a vehicle (see image above) earlier this week after a meet at Thames Valley Park in Earley.
We've been working side by side to help tackle similar problems at Carnival Pool car park in Wokingham in recent weeks.
About 20 drivers were issued with warnings by police last weekend due to anti-social driving in and around our area. If these drivers do this again means their cars could be seized.
The police have said they will continue issuing tickets, and when appropriate, vehicles will be seized if events continue to happen.
Take part in the one blue bag challenge
Last year we threw away a massive 36,000 tonnes of rubbish. About half of this could have been recycled via your kerbside collection.
In Wokingham borough, 24% of the waste found in blue rubbish bags is food waste, contributing a further 500 tonnes per month to waste instead of recycling it and transforming it into energy for local homes. That’s around 42 truckloads of food waste each month that could be prevented or recycled!
Why not set a new goal and take part in the one blue bag challenge! If we all use only one blue bag per week for each household, this would significantly reduce the amount of rubbish we dispose of.
Feed your food caddy – if you need one you can order a caddy online or pick one up. If you need more green recycling bags (these are free) for paper, card, plastics and more you can also order extra ones on our website.
