Help shape your waste and recycling service
Whether you're happy with the current waste and recycling collection service, or would like to see changes, we want to hear from you.
We have now launched the first phase of engagement on a new waste and recycling service – and we are asking residents to tell us their thoughts.
This first phase will allow us to understand your priorities and principles when it comes to waste but we will consult with residents throughout the process.
Sign up to our new engagement platform, Engage Wokingham Borough and tell us what you think.
 Garden waste price drop
Garden waste collection for the rest of 2021-22 costs £35 as the price has dropped from this week (1 November).
If you subscribe to our garden waste collection service, we will provide a 240 litre brown wheelie bin and a fortnightly collection for you to deposit your garden clippings, grass cuttings, leaves and weeds. If you'd like to order our brown bins, you can do so via the garden waste webpage.
If you order now your subscription will cover until 27 May 2022.
Don't produce much garden waste? Then why not consider the 75 litre compostable garden waste sacks. These cost £1.10 each and you can order them on the brown sack collection webpage.
 One bag challenge
Within our borough, we threw away 29,100 tonnes of rubbish this last year. Our residents increased the amount they recycled over the previous year – well done! But we only recycled 14,900 tonnes, which is about half the amount of rubbish we produced. We can do more.
More than 50 per cent of rubbish that we throw away in the blue bags can actually be recycled – much of this at home through your kerbside recycling collection.
To encourage this, we are challenging our residents to the one bag challenge. If we all use only one blue bag per week for each household, this would significantly reduce the amount of rubbish we send to landfill or burn for energy.
Recycling saves money as it costs much less to recycle waste than it does to dispose of it, conserves precious resources by turning them into products and saves energy because making products out of recycled, rather than raw materials uses considerably less energy and reduces landfill. The food waste placed in food caddies can be processed and turned into energy as well as capturing methane to turn into electricity.
Buy less, recycle more and feed your food caddy. We’re in this together - let’s all play our part.
 Order more recycling bags
You are now able to get up to four more green recycling bags. You can just turn up at any of the hubs during the opening hours. Look here to find our collection hub locations and hours.
If you cannot collect or arrange someone to collect on your behalf you may order for delivery but please note this may take more than 14 days. Complete the simple order form on our recycling bag webpages to get them delivered.
 Wanted in connection to fly-tipping
Our investigations suggest that the business operating with this phone number (07340 045208) may be able to provide some useful information about fly-tipping in our borough. We are appealing to residents for information about these posters, which advertise the removal of vehicles and waste.
If anyone has used this service and has information on the individuals operating it, including contact details or receipts, please report it on our website.
All information will be treated in confidence and if the information you provide results in a successful prosecution, you will receive a gift card to the value of £100.
We are reminding residents to ensure that any waste removal services chosen hold a valid Waste Carrier’s Licence. Checking this takes less than a minute and can be done on the Environment Agency’s website.
Fly-tipping is a crime. Be smart and dispose of your waste responsibly.
