 Garden waste collection resumes
Garden waste collections will restart in Wokingham borough on Monday (1 November) following a suspension due to national HGV driver shortages impacting our waste collection contractor Veolia. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during the past month.
Residents due for collection from Monday (1 November) should put their garden waste out for collection as normal. If you are unsure about your collection days, you can check your day on our waste collection webpage.
We appreciate residents have paid for this additional service therefore subscriptions will be automatically extended by four weeks, from 1 May to 29 May 2022 to make up for the two missed collections.
Have your say on waste and recycling
The borough’s current waste and recycling collection contract expires in 2026 and, to make sure we get the right service for the future, we are starting early engagement with you to understand your priorities.
We understand how important waste and recycling collections are to you and that is why we want to hear from you.
This first phase will be about principles and priorities, but there will be further opportunities for engagement and consultation as we get closer to the detailed decisions.
You can sign up to Engage Wokingham Borough and take part in the waste and recycling survey.
Black box collection ends next week
You're reminded from Monday (1 November) recycling will only be collected from the sealed green waterproof green bags and not the old black recycling boxes.
This change was announced on 1 September and since 4 October our contractor Veolia has been alerting residents who are still putting out their boxes by placing reminder stickers on them during collections.
To find out more, visit our news webpage.
 Recycle your rigid plastic
If residents can’t find a way to reuse or repurpose the old black boxes, the re3 recycling centres are now able to recycle rigid plastic.
Rigid plastics account for 700 tonnes of waste across our wider area and until recently had to go to landfill. All the materials are recycled in European and UK markets in pipelines, cars, construction and furniture materials.
Re3 are now operating on their winter opening times. As of 1 October, re3 recycling centres in Reading and Bracknell will be open 8am to 6pm - with the last slot available at 5.30pm.
You can book your click & tip slot via the re3 webpage.
Do you recognise this tipper van?
We need your help identifying this vehicle that fly-tipped garden waste down Broadcommon Road in Hurst on Sunday 10 October at 8.30pm.
If you have footage or information, you can report it on our website.
All information will be treated in confidence and if the information you provide results in a successful prosecution, you will receive a gift card to the value of £100.
 Recycle your Halloween pumpkins
Don't forget to recycle your halloween pumpkins with your food waste after you've finished with them this weekend.
All the insides can go straight into your food waste caddy and your pumpkin can be cut up and put in. If it's too big, don't worry, just sit it next to your bin on your collection day and it will be taken away too!
