New drug and alcohol service provider chosen
Following a competitive tender process, Wokingham Borough Council is pleased to announce that Cranstoun has been awarded the substance misuse service contract for borough residents. The contract is for five years and has been running since 1 April 2021.
Cranstoun will deliver the drug and alcohol recovery service for adults, including their families and carers, in the borough. The adults service will remain located in Station Road and will be known as Cranstoun Wokingham. The children’s service will be known as Here4YOUth and will work with young people up to the age of 18. There will be a presence in education settings, youth offending, children’s centres, and a number of other partners where they will co-locate.

Council reaffirms commitment to Armed Forces Covenant
We are continuing to show support for the local armed forces community and at last week’s council meeting, reaffirmed its commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and commitment to achieving the Armed Forces Bronze Award employer status.
The Covenant, first signed by the council in 2013, aims to encourage local authorities and the armed forces community to work closely together to offer support and nurture public understanding and awareness among the public of issues affecting the armed forces community. The Covenant also aims to encourage activities to help integrate the armed forces community into local life as well as to get involved in projects and other forms of engagement.
Have your say and help improve SHINE service
Our over 60s activities programme, SHINE, will be upgrading its current online booking system to a new online platform next month (Monday 13 September).
A series of question-and-answer sessions will be held from 10 to 25 August 2021 at leisure centres around the borough, for residents to learn more, ask questions, provide comments, and share concerns about the new platform.

Update on Winnersh Triangle park and ride
Construction of the expanded park and ride at Winnersh Triangle is underway, with work estimated to be complete by Summer 2022.
We are building a more sustainable local transport infrastructure, like the park and rides, which will help to reduce congestion by providing transport options as well as improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions.
Once complete, the car park will have an increased capacity of 500 spaces, including 12 electric vehicle charging spaces. The new and improved Winnersh park and ride has been funded by Thames Valley Local Enterprise Partnership, our partners Frasers Property and developer contributions.
Enabling works on Winnersh Triangle started on 2 August, during this time the car park capacity will be reduced. Later in the month, from 23 August, the car park will be mostly closed with 100 spaces accessible in the western end of the car park. There will also be adjustments to the pedestrian footpaths which will be signposted, and from 25 August there will be a temporary bus stop in operation. Trains and buses will continue to operate as normal during the work.
