Surge testing launched in the Borough
We're carrying out Covid-19 local testing (surge testing) until Monday 21 June for people living, working, or studying in the following wards:
- Bulmershe and Whitegates
- Evendons
- Norreys
- Wescott
If you’re not sure whether your area is affected, please use the postcode checker on our website.
Thousands of people have come forward for a Covid-19 test in the past few days and all of the surge testing centres in the borough have been busy.
We’re really pleased with the turnout so far and there is still plenty of time to get tested. Our teams have started door knocking in affected areas to help raise awareness.
For more information, including details on test site locations and opening times, please visit our website.
 Toutley East planning application submitted
This week sees our Toutley East proposals for 130 new energy efficient homes take a step forward with the submission of an outline planning application for the site in Wokingham.
The plans also include proposals for a new specialist dementia care home on the site to meet increased local need, subject to the approval of the final business case.
Subject to planning consent, we propose to use Toutley East to showcase energy efficient residential development by introducing a range of initiatives at the site. Helping tackle climate change and supporting our ambitions to be net carbon zero by 2030.

 Thanks to all who volunteer
Monday marked the end of Volunteers’ Week, an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering.
We’ve had a difficult year, but the Covid-19 pandemic has shown us the generosity of our residents – our family, friends, neighbours who all gave their time to help those in need and to make our communities a better place.
Watch Borough Mayor Cllr Keith Baker as he thanks all those who have volunteered during the past year and reminds us all that when the crisis ends we will still need volunteers.
Do you have a bit of spare time to help make a difference? Visit the Wokingham Volunteer Centre to see the wide variety of roles available, from gardening help to befriending a lonely person, from helping with a children’s sports team to supporting people with disabilities – there’s something for everyone. Visit the Wokingham Volunteer Centre website to learn more.
Changes to road layout at Elms Field
With work progressing quickly on the town houses to the western edge of Elms Field in Wokingham, and the first owners set to move in this summer, we’re about to make some changes to how people access the roads surrounding the park.
From Thursday 17 June, Earle Crescent, the new road which runs around the park and links Wellington Road to the remaining section of Elms Road and the Plaza car park, will fully open to vehicles and pedestrians.
At the same time Biscoe Way, the road connecting from the corner of Earle Crescent (by the park) to Shute End (by the Council Civic offices) will close for around 12 months to allow David Wilson Homes to safely construct the final phase of homes along this section of road.
Access to the Council’s Shute End office car park and the surge testing centres will be via the Shute End and Station Road entrances only, there will be no through access to the park.
