Wokingham Borough Connect
Highways England announces M4 weekend closure
Highways England has advised that the M4 will be closed in both directions over this weekend, 7-10 May, between junction 6 (Slough) and 8/9 (Maidenhead).
The closure will start after 8pm Friday and the motorway will reopen by 6am on Monday.
Visit Highways England website for further information about upcoming closures.
Surfacing dressing programme begins this weekend
Our surface dressing programme begins this Saturday with work in Wokingham Without, Finchampstead and Wokingham.
Seventeen roads will see improvements between 8 and 11 May, with work taking place under short closures while material is laid.
Surface dressing adds protection to the carriageway surface, sealing it from water while also enhancing its skid resistance. This protection can extend the life of the carriageway surface by up to 10 years. There’s a full frequently asked questions on this type of resurfacing on our website or available to download as a PDF.
If you’re travelling in the borough you’ll want to check the programme to see if your journey may be disrupted by our work. You can see the full programme on our road repairs webpages or download a PDF copy of the programme.
Six month resurfacing programme begins Monday
Work begins on our resurfacing programme across the borough on Monday (10 May). In the coming months we’ll complete 47 projects to improve roads in our area.
This begins in Earley with overnight works (8pm to 6am) on Lower Earley Way, on the Rushey Way/Mill Lane roundabout from Monday until 17 May. Work in Earley will be followed up with more night working on London Road, Twyford, and London Road, Ruscombe.
All these will be full resurfacing schemes, which is a more extensive treatment. It will involve removing layers of a worn out road surface and replacing this with new material. For more information you can download a PDF copy of the full resurfacing frequently asked questions.
Our programme for full resurfacing is planned to run until October, as we continue to invest in maintaining the borough’s roads to a high standard. We will provide weekly updates on upcoming work in this newsletter.
You can see the list of roads where we are working and our planned programme with dates for upcoming work on our road repairs webpages or download a PDF copy of the programme.
Bi-annual maintenance works to start this month
It's that time of year again. Twice a year our Highways team carry out maintenance works on the road, verge and central reservation along the A329M, A3290 and A33.
Works include vegetation clearance, re-lining, carriageway repair, emptying of gullies, barrier repair and litter picking.
Various restrictions are put in place while these works are carried out to ensure the safety of both motorists and our teams working on the road.
These works are due to start on the A329M on 14 May. We will post details of any restrictions that will be in place in the roadworks section of upcoming newsletters. You can also follow us on our traffic and travel Facebook and Twitter for the latest information.
