 Halfway through recycling bag delivery
More than 43,000 households across the borough have now had their annual delivery of waste items. This means means more than half of you should now have your new waterproof recycling bags.
Additional delivery crews are joining the rollout from this week, as planned, to help us get the items to all residents by mid-April. Each package also has 80 blue general waste bags and 100 food waste caddy liners.
If you have more recycling than the two bags can hold, you should keep using your black boxes, but only for non-paper/card items such as cans, tins and plastics.
Additional bags will be available following the roll-out. More information on how you will be able to get additional bags will be released in due course. Read more on our news site or sign up for our weekly rubbish and recycling updates for the latest on the rollout.
 What's on this Easter
Spring into action this Easter break with a series of sessions at the Dinton Activity Centre. Kids are invited to make a splash with our Covid-19 secure water and land activities, from our Junior Sailing Club right through to our Wild Days and Welly Days.
And, on Friday 2 April, boat hire re-opens with prices starting from just £8. You can take your pick from pedalos to paddleboards, or even kayaks and canoes - with 94 acres of lake there's plenty of space to enjoy the sunshine at a safe distance from others!
On Sunday 18 April, see the lake come to life on our Springwatch Paddle. Look out for our waterfowl chicks like ducklings, cygnets and goslings and our beautiful colourful dragonflies. A booking system remains in place for the Dinton Pastures play area at peak times, you can reserve a slot for you and your youngsters now.
Away from the outdoors, if you’re looking to support local traders why not check out the Wokingham Virtual Easter Market. It’s open until 11 April and its offerings include fresh bespoke cakes, soy wax candles, custom made jewellery and perfumery, as well as much more.
Charity and community hub on the way
The first charity and community hub for the borough will open in Wokingham town centre later this year. We're looking to build on the positive partnership we have developed with the voluntary, charity and community sector during the Covid-19 pandemic through the project.
The hub will bring a number of voluntary, charity and community organisations under one roof. The first hub will be based at Waterford House in Wokingham, and it will provide high quality information, advice and support to enable people to access the right services to meet their individual needs and circumstances at the right time.
This is the first hub of its kind in Wokingham, and there are aspirations to roll out further hubs elsewhere in the borough during the coming years.
Proposals also include an application for a change of use – details can be found on the council’s website and searching ‘planning applications’ (planning application number: 210797). Subject to planning permission, refurbishment work will start in the summer.
 Are you registered to vote?
Polling cards will start to drop onto doormats across the borough from this week.
If you’re not already registered you need to do so by 19 April in order to vote in the 6 May elections, which include our local elections and the Police and Crime Commissioner elections for Thames Valley Police.
In our area there are also some scheduled parish elections and town council by-elections. For full details you can read the notice of elections on our website.
Complete your registration online, it takes less than five minutes.
