What to do when your bin is missed
Did you know if any of your waste collections are missed, you can easily report this online?
We’ve made an animation to help guide you through what to do when your bags aren't collected, food waste caddy left full or recycling boxes aren’t emptied at the kerbside.
Once reported, it will be investigated to see if there is a reason why it was not collected. If no valid reason is recorded we will rearrange collection for you within two working days.
You can watch the video on our YouTube channel or report a missed collection.
New recycling bags update
We have now ordered the new waterproof recycling bags which will be replacing the black recycling boxes. We’ll update you soon on the delivery schedule.
The switch will help us towards our goal of a 70 per cent recycling rate as part of a drive to make Wokingham a carbon neutral borough by 2030.
As we head into the autumn and winter months, if residents can store boxes inside or undercover until the new bags are introduced, it helps boost our recycling levels for now.
On your collection day you can stack recycling boxes and cover them with blue bags to keep them as dry as possible even if there’s a downpour.
Still spaces on recycling webinars
There’s still a few spaces left for our recycling webinar on Thursday (22 October), talking through how we sort all your materials and then how they’re transformed into kitchen appliances, toys, clothes and packaging.
Webinars are running in place of the annual tours of the facility in Reading, which are usually organised by our partners re3.
They’ll be a lesson in what the material recycling facility does, as well as a host of recycling tips with one of our waste team member, Pete Baveystock, who will also answer your questions.
You can join via Zoom or via Facebook.
Check your collection day with ease
If you’re ever unsure on when your waste or garden waste collections are, we have a handy tool on our website to refresh your memory.
All you need to do is type in your postcode, select your property and it will tell you your collection days and the date of your next collection.
Pumpkin recycling this Halloween
If you're carving a pumpkin this Halloween don't forget all of it can be recycled.
All the insides can go straight into your food waste caddy and your pumpkin, if it's too big, can sit next to your bin on your collection day and it will be taken away too.
If you're using an edible pumpkin, there are some fantastic recipes on the BBC Good Food website.
