Wokingham town centre barriers coming down
The red and white traffic pedestrian barriers on the north side of Broad Street, and those to the west of the bus stop on the south side, are due to be taken down tomorrow (Saturday).
They are due to be removed from 5am, and traffic will still be able to use the route while this is being done.
The barriers east of the bus stop on the south side will stay in place for now to give you additional space to social distance while queueing outside shops and around the bus stop in front of the post office.
Businesses must join national tracing scheme
If you own/run a pub, restaurant, cafe, hairdressers, or any other business, you can get the NHS QR code now before the NHS Covid-19 app is officially launched on 24 September.
From that date it will be mandatory to display a QR code poster in your premises. Getting and displaying the QR code ahead of the app's launch means you'll be ready in time. (The QR code is also available for community venues such as village and church halls.)
When the app launched on the 24th, the rest of us will be able to download it so we can check-in on entry to a business, by scanning the QR code into our phones, instead of filling out a check-in book or tool specific to that business. This will allow NHS Test and Trace to contact us with public health advice if there’s a Covid-19 outbreak.
Businesses can download their QR codes here.

Recruiting foster carers during the pandemic
We’ve slightly changed the way we recruit foster carers as we need for them as urgently as ever.
We already have more than 50 foster carers in our borough, but we always need more to keep children from our borough in our care, close to their families.
We’ve switched our in-person recruitment stands for online recruitment events, certain parts of the training now take place digitally, and there are extra distancing precautions for face-to-face meetings.
The recruitment process still takes about six months to complete although we can accelerate applications if needed. Watch a short video about what it’s like to be a foster carer.
If you’re interested in getting started on your fostering journey, contact Jackie Ross in the fostering team on (0118) 974 6204, email fostering, visit the ‘Wokingham Fostering’ Facebook or go to the Wokingham Borough fostering website.
