Volunteer to help find a Covid-19 vaccine
Join the fight against the virus by volunteering in the NHS’s Covid-19 vaccine research.
A number of vaccines are currently being tested but only large scale studies can give researchers the information needed to see if a vaccine is effective.
If you live in the UK and are aged 18+ you can register your details online, including if you’re healthy.
There’s is no obligation to join a study if you’re contacted by researchers. It's your choice. If you sign up, you can withdraw your permission at any time.

Wokingham's latest Covid-19 statistics
As of Wednesday this week, 613 borough residents have tested positive for the virus since the outbreak began.
Our Public Health team publishes detailed local Covid-19 data on our website every Friday under the ‘Covid-19 in the Wokingham Borough’ section on that page.
Across Berkshire, 3,469 cases have been detected, with the Borough of Reading with the highest number (817). However, the true number of positive cases everywhere are probably higher because asymptomatic cases go undiagnosed.
But the rate of newly-detected cases in Wokingham is at present slowing down. And the total cases detected in the borough stands at 365 per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.
Face covering compassion
Research by King’s College London claims a growing number of people are being verbally abused, or reported, for not wearing face coverings - even though many are exempt.
Remember, people don’t need to wear them:
- if they cannot put on, wear, or remove one because of a physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability
- where putting on, wearing, or removing one will cause them severe distress
- if they’re speaking, or providing assistance, to someone who relies on lip reading, clear sound, or facial expressions to communicate
Not all disabilities are obvious. If you’re disabled, and already working twice as hard as able-bodied people getting out and about, fear of being confronted or reported is an additional and unfair burden. So let’s be compassionate out there…
Worrying trend in new Covid-19 cases
Nationally and globally we’re seeing increases in the numbers of teenagers and young people now with Covid-19, with experts fearing the virus could spread again with renewed energy across the whole population as a result.
As their symptoms tend to be mild, or asymptomatic, they’re less likely to be bothered by health fears or be interested in Test and Trace. They’re more likely to be influenced by their friends’ behaviour and more likely to resist lockdown restrictions, face coverings, social distancing or regular hand washing.
If you’re a teenager or young person reading this, sadly you’re not invulnerable. Yes, you probably won’t end up in ICU (although increasing numbers now do) but your actions could put your loved ones there instead.
