Leisure centres re-open on 3 August
The easing of national lockdown restrictions means Loddon Valley Leisure, St Crispin's, and Arborfield leisure centres plus Ryeish Green Sports Hub can all re-open on the 3rd.
We and our contractor Places Leisure are putting the finishing touches to new Covid-19 safety measures at the centres meaning they'll look a bit different but necessary to ensure you and staff are protected.
These changes include additional social distancing signs, sanitiser and cleaning stations for you to use before and after exercising and to wipe down equipment, as well as an enhanced cleaning regime for the gym, changing rooms and toilets.
Group exercise class sizes will be smaller and some of the gym equipment is being re-positioned. The gym and group sessions will open on the 3rd with other sports such as badminton and squash resuming on the 17th. At Loddon Valley, the swimming pool will re-open for lane and family swimming, and aquacise on the 10th.
Beware Test and Trace scams
Since the launch of the NHS Test and Trace more than 600,000 scam emails have been sent out nationally from scammers trying to use confusion and worry around the outbreak to their advantage.
Here are some tips to help you beat them:
- Genuine texts, calls or emails won’t ask for any personal details upfront, and the service is free so you’ll never be asked for your bank details. This is the only official web address for the NHS Test and Trace.
- If you haven’t taken a coronavirus test in the past few days but get a call about a positive result, the call is fake. Hang up immediately and report the call to Action Fraud.
- Texts will always be sent from ‘NHStracing’ which is a protected sender ID. If you’re contacted by phone, the call will come from 0300 013 5000 but be aware it’s possible for scammers to hijack this number. Treat calls from withheld or other numbers as fake.

How has Covid-19 affected you?
We’ve launched a survey today into how the pandemic has affected you to help us assess how we’ve connected with you, its effects on you, what services you’re accessing and any changes you’d like to ensure we can give you what you need in the future..
By taking part you also have the chance to win either a spa session for two at Nirvana, a taster session at Dinton Activity Centre, afternoon tea at Blue Orchid Bakery or up to £50 in gift vouchers.
The survey is on our consultations web page. Alternatively, you can complete a paper survey by emailing us asking for one, or by calling us on (0118) 974 6000.
Face coverings compulsory from today
They’re now mandatory in enclosed public spaces including shops, supermarkets, shopping centres and transport hubs. Venues such as restaurants, pubs and gyms are exempt.
For the full list of where we must wear them, see the government’s face covering web page which also has advice on how to use them safely.
There are lot of false statistics being bandied about online about the effectiveness of face coverings. But recent research shows and scientists now agree if you have Covid-19, but haven’t yet developed symptoms, wearing a covering definitely helps protect those around you. Studies also show this protection dramatically increases if those around you also wear one.
But remember, coverings are but one tool in the box to slow transmission. Regular hand washing and sanitiser, social distancing, and keeping home surfaces squeaky clean all remain crucial.
