Because of the pandemic, a number of pharmacies across the borough will be open tomorrow – some reduced hours, some normal.
To find out which ones are open near you click here to download and open the full (pdf) list.
You can also find out more about pharmacy normal opening hours on the NHS website.
And as part of the Community Pharmacy Consultation Service, you can access urgent supplies of repeat medicines via 111 online.
Tomorrow is VE Day and although we can't celebrate in the way we intended, we can still have a bash at home or even a street party - each in our own gardens.
There are lots of online activities and resources you could use to get into the VE Day spirit such as printing off your own red, white and blue bunting, listening to a 1940s playlist or cooking a 1940s style buffet.
This VE Day government website has all the tools, tips and information you need to get your party started.
National commemorations taking place on VE Day include:
- Two special programmes on BBC One
- A two-minute silence of remembrance at 11am
- The ‘Nations’ Toast to the Heroes of World War 2’ at 3pm – A chance to stand at home and raise a glass of refreshment of your choice to toast – “Those who gave so much, we thank you”
- A pre-recorded televised address from Her Majesty The Queen at 9pm
Now more than ever our children need foster carers, so we’re still recruiting during this time. We’re looking for new or experienced foster carers for local children needing caring families living in or near the Borough.
It’s a brilliant career with a host of support and financial benefits which increase over time with experience and training, including Council Tax exemption right from the start.
But above all, it can be positively life-changing for the young person who becomes part of your family. Just ask one of our foster carers, such as Steve Allum (pictured above) with his daughter Jo-Anna and the Minty the dog.
To find out more about fostering call (0118) 974 6204, email: fostering@wokingham.gov.uk or visit our special fostering website.
We’re inviting children to write letters or postcards, or create drawings, to be delivered to isolated residents across the Borough in our goody bag deliveries – putting a smile on their face during Mental Health Week (18 to 24 May).
If you’ve a little one who’d like to take part (or perhaps you’d like to pen your own letter), post your contributions to: Nicola Owens, Wokingham Borough Council, Shute End, Wokingham RG40 1BN.
Another option is to create them digitally, or scan your hard copies, then email them to: nicola.owens@wokingham.gov.uk.
Ideally we’d like to receive your letters, postcards and drawings by Wednesday 13 May.
While we all eagerly await the Prime Minister’s announcement this Sunday, and the weather promising to be sunny, it might be tempting to let our good habits from the past six weeks let slip.
Social distancing, only venturing out for essential journeys, washing our hands and disinfecting surfaces at home have kept us and the NHS safe. UK infection and death rates are beginning to fall. But we’re not out of the woods yet. Covid-19 is not beaten. It is still a real and dangerous threat.
