Residents are invited to enjoy a series of free Age Friendly Festivals taking place at leisure centres across Westmorland and Furness this October.
The festivals will be of most interest to older adults but everyone is welcome to come along and take part.
Visitors can take part in a variety of taster sessions, meet local community groups and organisations, enjoy live music and other performances, and find out more about opportunities to stay active, connected and independent. No booking is required.
All of the festivals will offer practical advice and demonstrations of equipment that can help people live independently, alongside an equipment take-back service for items that are no longer needed. The Better Homes Team will also be attending to provide advice and guidance on Disabled Facilities Grants and Handyperson service.

Applications are being sought from members of the community to become a local authority school governor. You do not need to work for the council, but must live or work in Westmorland and Furness and be over the age of 18. These voluntary positions are a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to local children and the community. Governors directly contribute to improving outcomes for children and young people and support schools to provide the best possible education.
No previous experience in education is required; what matters most is enthusiasm, integrity, and a genuine commitment to supporting young people. Whilst the local authority nominate candidates for these positions, the duty is to govern in the interests of the school.
Being a governor is also excellent professional development, offering board level experience in strategic planning, decision making, and performance and policy oversight.
