Every child and young person deserves to feel heard, supported and connected. As we mark World Suicide Prevention Day, we are encouraging professionals, families and communities to play their part in recognising when a young person may be struggling and know where to access help.
Suicide prevention is everyone's business. Having open, supportive conversations and responding early to concerns can make a significant difference. We encourage all practitioners working with children, young people and families to take opportunities to increase their confidence in recognising emotional distress and responding appropriately.
Every Life Matters is a Cumbria-based suicide prevention and suicide bereavement support charity working to reduce suicide and support local communities. The website provides a wealth of resources, training opportunities, guidance and practical information to help people recognise when someone may be struggling and understand how to offer support.

Orange Button Community Scheme
The Orange Button Community Scheme helps people identify trained individuals who can listen without judgement, talk openly about suicide, and signpost to appropriate support services. The distinctive orange badge shows that the wearer has completed recognised suicide prevention training and is confident in having supportive conversations.
If you have completed suicide prevention training with Every Life Matters in the last two years and live in Cumbria, you can register to join the scheme.
