Residents and businesses are being encouraged to ‘have your say’ in shaping the next stage of Westmorland and Furness’ first Local Plan.
The Local Plan is one of the most important documents produced by Westmorland and Furness Council. It carefully considers how many new homes and workplaces the area needs to grow. It considers the prosperity and sustainability of communities, whilst also protecting its local and historic character, landscapes, biodiversity and environment - for now and for future generations.
The next stage of the process is a ‘Scoping Consultation’, which lasts for six weeks until 11 August.

A project to help more children across Westmorland and Furness to turn up to their first day at school truly “school ready” is starting to get results.
The Early Years team used a Community Power approach, working with families through schools, nurseries and other settings to build up a picture of local needs and where there were gaps in support. This has allowed the team to identify priority areas and develop sessions responsive to local needs across different communities.
