We are excited to share the Summer edition of our magazine.
Our aim is to keep residents informed about what’s happening across Westmorland and Furness. The magazine provides updates on our work and highlights local developments and community achievements.
In this Summer edition, features include our handy guide to waste and recycling service changes, action taken to protect popular visitor sites in our area, and investment to keep our schools fit for the future.
Councillors recently joined members of the Lancaster Canal Regeneration Partnership to walk a new public footpath diversion at Natland, near Kendal.
The new route forms part of the partnership’s ongoing work to enhance access, celebrate heritage and encourage more people to explore the historic Lancaster Canal corridor. The wider Towpath Trail initiative aims to reconnect Kendal and Lancaster along the original canal towpath, passing both watered and unwatered sections of the unique historic landscape.
The project was funded through Thrive Heritage funding from Westmorland and Furness Council, supporting heritage-led improvements across the region.

This week Liz Thoele has retired after an incredible 39 years as a Registrar in the Eden area.
She’s been there to register the births, marriages and deaths for literally thousands of people during her long career. And after the change in the law allowed weddings to take place in hotels and other venues, she has travelled the area to officiate at numerous marriage and civil partnership ceremonies.
We wish you a very happy retirement Liz!
