West Coast Easter Fun at Stephney Farm, Seascale
Meanwhile on the west coast, Stephney Farm is using its superfast broadband while gearing up for its increasingly popular Easter Eggvent, attracting families from across the county for farm‑themed activities and seasonal fun.
Kate Knight told us how central digital tools have become to their planning: “Our Easter Eggvent grows every year, and families rely on our website and social pages for times, tickets and weather updates, so strong digital connectivity is essential. It lets us post live updates, manage bookings in real time and keep the event running smoothly. We also love seeing families share their photos and videos from the farm. Watching children enjoy meeting the new chicks and lambs brings the event to life online and encourages more people to visit us and the surrounding area.”
From real‑time ticketing to social media buzz, connectivity is helping rural enterprises reach wider audiences and support larger community events.

Connectivity Across Cumbria
Local authority Digital Champions emphasise the role modern infrastructure plays in keeping Cumbria’s rural communities resilient and future‑ready.
Cllr Chris Southward, Cumberland Council’s Digital Champion, said:
“Tourism, rural businesses and seasonal events all depend on connectivity more than ever before. From mobile payments to visitor information, rolling out futureproof digital infrastructure to support digital services access is essential to how people experience Cumbria, especially during busy periods like Easter.”
Cllr Peter Thornton, Digital Champion for Westmorland & Furness, added:
“When our rural attractions thrive, our communities thrive. Reliable connectivity ensures every corner of Cumbria is equipped to host events, work flexibly, welcome visitors and stay connected, whatever the season.”
As thousands of visitors travel across Cumbria for Easter breaks and community activities, reliable digital access is essential to supporting local businesses, ensuring smooth operations, and enabling rural communities to continue innovating and thriving.
Whether you are running a holiday event, welcoming guests, or simply planning your own activities over Easter, the county’s growing digital infrastructure is helping make it all possible.
Connecting Cumbria continues to make strong progress against the county’s Digital Infrastructure Strategy, with the delivery accelerating across our hardest‑to‑reach communities. As of the latest government data, over 31,000 properties in Cumbria have gone live through the Fibrus‑led Project Gigabit contract, moving steadily toward the 58,000‑property target, helping extend gigabit‑capable connectivity across the county beyond the 85% of Cumbrian properties already able to access these services. In parallel, the Shared Rural Network (SRN) programme is advancing, with 21 new Emergency Services Network (ESN) masts planned across Cumbria, of which 18 are already delivered and live with EE, 9 of which are bringing enhanced 4G coverage from all major mobile operators to some of our most remote areas.
