An upgrade to the former Barrow Income Management System means that our staff won’t be able to take phone payments on Thursday, 23rd October.
All other payment facilities – such as personal online banking, via the council’s website or using AllPay at any Post Office or Pay Point store if you have a bar-coded bill - will be available as normal and the phone service will be available again from Friday, 24th October. We apologise for any inconvenience.
Hate incidents aren’t always physical violence driven by racism or homophobia. Sometimes it’s the things people say “as a joke” but which become far from funny for the person on the receiving end - and can add up to have a significant impact on them.
As part of Hate Crime Week, watch Caroline Howsley, the Chief Executive of the Cumbria Deaf Association, who has experienced this first-hand.
Cumbria Fostering launched its powerful new short film, The Run, as part of a countywide campaign to recruit more foster carers.
The film follows Tom, an 11-year-old boy, who faced danger and instability in his early life, which forced him to run from unsafe situations. Through the care of a loving foster family, Tom’s life has transformed — he now has stability, safety, and support to grow and thrive.
The powerful new film follows his journey, showing the challenges he overcame and how having someone who believes in him gave him the courage to move forward. Tom’s story is a moving reminder of the difference foster care can make, turning fear and uncertainty into confidence, hope, and a sense of belonging.
