Our face-to-face training programme offers a wide range of courses designed to support practitioners across Westmorland and Furness. Delivered by a multi-agency pool of experienced trainers from health, social care and partner agencies, each session brings practical knowledge and expertise to help you meet safeguarding responsibilities with confidence. The programme is coordinated by the WFSCP Business Team and regularly updated to reflect emerging priorities and developments in safeguarding practice.

This training is designed for practitioners from all partner agencies to develop a multi-agency understanding of safeguarding, risk management and professional responsibilities when working with children. Participants should have completed Level 2 Safeguarding Children (eLearning) via the Virtual College.
The 3-hour, in-person session is interactive, giving you the chance to share experiences and learn from other practitioners to improve outcomes for children and young people across Westmorland and Furness.

This training is for practitioners working with children and young people who are at risk of, or experiencing, child exploitation. Participants should complete the Child Exploitation and Extra Familial Harm Level 1 eLearning via the Virtual College before attending.
The workshop provides practical guidance and multi-agency perspectives to support planning and interventions that keep children safe across Westmorland and Furness.

This 2-hour, in-person workshop is for education, children’s services and care placement personnel. It provides an overview of upcoming changes to Cumbria Constabulary’s Missing Children procedures, effective January 2026. The session will cover proportionate police responses, safety planning, and the role of Police METCO (Missing, Exploited, Trafficked Coordinators). Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss practical approaches to supporting children who go missing and understand how new procedures align with national guidance and safeguarding best practice.

Westmorland & Furness Council, in partnership with SafeLives, offers this full-day, face-to-face training to provide consistent baseline awareness of domestic abuse across Cumbria. SafeLives is a UK-wide charity dedicated to ending domestic abuse, bringing practical, evidence-led guidance with the survivor’s voice at the heart of learning.
The training is free for all professionals and provides essential knowledge and skills to respond effectively to domestic abuse in your role.

In partnership with Victim Support and Cumbria Constabulary, this training is for professionals working with victims of domestic abuse. It equips participants to identify signs of abuse and effectively assess risk using the DASH Risk Assessment and combined homicide timeline.

This multi-agency training shares the powerful voice of Tom, a child who experienced domestic abuse and tragically lost his mother. The session provides insight into the lived experiences of children affected by domestic abuse, coercive control and neglect, promoting child-centred, trauma-informed practice.
Participants will reflect on the impact of trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on children’s wellbeing and development.

This 1-hour online session is for all frontline multi-agency professionals and provides essential knowledge on non-fatal strangulation. Participants will learn to recognise its seriousness, understand its physiological and psychological impact, identify and manage associated risks and respond using a trauma-informed approach to support victims and children/young people.

This full-day, in-person training is open to all staff, including support and frontline teams. It explores how trauma impacts the brain, body, and behaviour and how adopting a trauma-informed approach can improve the way we support individuals, communities, and each other at work.
Participants will reflect on applying trauma-informed principles in their own practice, services, and organisations.
