 Delivering The BookTrust Targeted Offer
Our amazing outreach officers have been out and about meeting nursery children across W&F, sharing stories and giving books as part of the BookTrust targeted offer. BookTrust is the UKs largest children’s reading charity. Their aim is to encourage children especially those from a low income or vulnerable background to enjoy reading regularly. They offer books and resources to libraries, schools and Early Years Practitioners as well as providing support and advice. Westmorland and Furness Libraries have just signed a new 3 year contract with BookTrust which will enable us to keep providing children with baby packs, toddler packs and preschool packs completely free of charge. BookTrust also supply a range of other books including dual language books and special needs books. As a Library Service we coordinate the delivery of baby packs through teams of midwives and health visitors throughout the authority. The packs are delivered to each child during their first year. We are assigned a number of toddler packs and preschool packs and we work with partners in local nurseries and pre-schools to deliver these packs to children from low- income backgrounds. Our team of Library Outreach Project Officers visit our partner nurseries to deliver the packs and have a story time with the children. The packs are designed to encourage children and parents/carers to enjoy reading a book together and contain a book, games and activities.
