With the freezing temperatures here to stay across the weekend, our crews will be continually gritting priority roads where the majority of vehicle movement takes place to keep our communities safe and moving.
Although it may be tempting to travel into the beautiful Westmorland and Furness fells, the minor roads needed to get them remain ice covered and treacherous.
As road temperatures are forecast to reach levels as low as minus 10 degrees where grit is less-effective, we encourage you to travel with caution, especially if you need to make a journey on untreated roads.
Support our gritting crews and emergency services to keep the roads safe and moving by:
- Preparing your vehicle by checking your tyres and stock up on screen wash.
- Planning your journey based on our treatment plans.
- Avoiding Lakeland passes and minor roads where possible.
Are you ready to make a difference in a child’s life in 2025? Cumbria Fostering is asking those thinking about new beginnings at the start of a new year to consider becoming a foster carer for local children.
Fostering with your local council is one of the most enriching things you can do for a child, but it's also rewarding…you'll meet new people, take on new challenges, and make a change to your life as well as theirs.
